Is there any way to work less than full time, say if you had decent job other than flying but wanted to continue flying for an airline?

I was thinking more along the lines of working almost part time. I am not really familiar with the work rules at the regoinals and was just wondering if something like that is possible.

Live in base and bid reserve - last out

Yeah, at Mesa that means you'll fly 6 days on, 2 days off. And I do mean fly . . . reserve is just another way of saying 8 days off a month (instead of a whopping 10).

I don't think you're going to have much luck with this one. Flying pretty much is a full time gig with a business on the side, not the other way around.

Depends on the airline. I have sat my share of reserve over the years and it has always been, by far, much less work than any part time job I have ever had.

there are pilots at SkyWest who fly standups and work other jobs during the day. reports are around 8 PM and you're done by about 8 am the next day. one leg out, one leg back in the morning. in SLC, though, they go very senior.

G2T's right

G2T's answer is really the only plausible way to do what you are talking about - and remember - to really maximize that you'll have to live in base. I did exactly that, built the other business and left flying. Now I have the ability to know why the grass is always greener somewhere else - it's fertilized with S**T. If you like flying, go for it, pay your dues and don't look back.

I was thinking of trying to teach a couple of classes at a community college or a university. It sounds like it would not be worth it to go to a regional airline. Maybe contract flying would be better. Thanks for all the replies.

are there many of those lines out of ORD?

I'm not sure how many, but I know that they do have CDOs. They used to go very junior, not sure how it is now that the base has grown and we've hired more folks from that area who don't commute and probably want the locals and CDOs.
