I see the window is open for applicants. Can some current guys tell me what working there is like, schedules, reserve, etc. Also any info on the interview process would be appreciated. I don't know any pilots at Midwest, is there a chance of an interview without having internal recs?

All info is appreciated.
 
I work on the connect side currently and quite a few of our pilots have made the jump over to YX. The ones I talk to still have had no regrets whatsoever Internal recs I believe are pretty much a must. As stated in previous posts, most the hiring will be from the SYX ranks.

You can always ask the few hundred guys they furloughed twice on how they were treated.
 
Well I will answer. I currently fly for Midwest and I very much enjoy it here. What helps is that I live in Wisconsin and only drive to work. The schedules on the 717 are mostly 3 and 4 day trips usually followed up by 3 days off. Since I do not fly the 80 I cannot answer for them, but I do know they have very few overnights and mostly out and backs, which is great if you live near Milwaukee. The lines lately are averaging about 14 days off and the flica bidding system greatly adds to the flexability of changing your schedule if you are a line holder. Reserve is usually 10 days off with the ability to designate one block of days off a month as golden days off where crew scheduling cannot touch you. I don't know how long reserve is any more, but I can guess that with the few amount of classes we are having for new hires, that you will be on reserve for a little bit. I really love flying here, and the pilot group is great. I hope this helps a little bit, but if you have any more questions I would be happy to do my best at answering them if you pm me. Good luck.

most guys like it at Midwest. I know, the grass is always greener on the other side, .....they were short on pilots in june/july and august it seems, a lot of JA and extra pay for the reserve holders.most guys that were hired in late 2005 are not sitting reserve anymore. pilot group is good.lines are built to about 83 hrs.as mentioned before flica helps , you can change your schedule quit a bit.don't expect as a new hire to get 16 days and all weekends off.

No, firing all the loyal Midwest rampers that worked there, some from day one. Then offering them an interview at Skyway. Now that was "classy".
 
First of all... they didn't furlough hundreds of guys at any point in their 23 year history. Secondly, more of their future hiring will come from outside Skyway. They hired alot of connect guys last year because of the planned downsizing of our feeder. But now there actually looking at keeping Skyway at its current size and getting a few more jets this fall. Which is good, we shouldn't be using contract carriers at all. I fly the 80 and the schedules are great if you live here. All out and backs and very little flying on res. I have been here 1 year and have about 200 hrs in the aircraft. I love it. I spent 7 years at a regional carrier and feel that Midwest is a great place to be in todays industry. Our weekly revenue is almost double what it was last year at this time. All we need is a new aircraft to replace the gas guzzeling 80 and we will be all set.

Ah, dude, you need a little history lesson. There were craploads (over 200) of us furloughed from YX right after 9-11, and then again in '03 right before the U.S. went back into Iraq. :angryfire

I'm glad you are happy there. There are many good people there, but there were just as many folks that would sell you out in a New York - minute if they could. But I digress... I hope they never screw you like they did us others. I don't trust Hoeksema any further than I can throw him. He can take his chocolate chip cookies and shove them were the sun don't shine! :puke: But I digress again...

Now, on the other hand, those SYX guys were the best! Great group of guys that I worked with. :D Now they are getting the hosing from Mother Blue. But I digress for a third time...
