I think Im going to quit WN and apply to a assigned seating carrier, since the pax are leaving in droves. The plain and simple fact you will never please 100% of the folks. For gods saked I used to fly corporate and everything could be perfect except that the XXXXX fried chicken was not hot enough, case and point. Lowecur are yu going to start hedging bets with your anti SWA bs because i think yu are going to have to eat your "earnings" report. Have a great week and a happy Easter

Edited by Eagleflip for language...potty mouth, and "have a...great Easter"?

People could always fly on an RJ with 2x1 or 2x2 seating, but I'm sure they'd b!tch about that too.

What's next, somebody whining that 767's are an inferior aircraft to use on Int'l flights?

A 767 is the RJ of int'l flights.

You pay $1200 for a flight about 3 days prior to travelling, and most of the seats have already been sold and assigned.

No, I've walked up to the ticket counter many times and paid the full Y class fare and been assigned a good seat. They save the good seats for the passengers that acutally make the airline some money. The only time I've gotten on the middle seat is on Southwest. Flying the airlines is part of my job and there is NO WAY I am going to get there early or stand in line for an hour.

The family

Personally, I won't fly Southwest because my family has consitently been split up on flights = Yes you guessed it, we were assigned the dreaded C ticket line and we could never find two "sets of two" seats together (for my wife and kids). And how much "fun" is it to ask other passengers to sit in a middle seat so you can sit next to your 4 or 6 year old - and be denied!

I can afford to pay for a better, less stressful experience so I fly American, Continental or United.

You get what you pay for - and my family is more important than saving a few bucks and flying a cattlecar.

Surveys had been done in the past by the COO and President of WN when they considered having assigned seating. It was determined that there is overwelming support for the open seating policy, which is evedenced by the success of the airlinie.

A friend solves this problem easily by putting the whinningest child in the middle seat between the unwilling to move passengers and as Mom leaves for her seat the child starts yelling their head off and they beg her to take the seats.

Hey guys,

Did you know you can print off your boarding pass at home. Starting at 1201 am the day of your trip, from your own PC. Then you will get your "A" boarding card. You can also get your boarding card at the crub from the skycap.

If your kids are under 5 you can pre-board and pick any seat you want to. I've heard many times where our FA's make a PA announcement and find people traveling with kids seats together.

So give us another chance, we want your money. Plus our Rapid Rewards program is the best in the industry. We don't go thru "hubs" and are on-time.

What now?

Yeah, well I send my packages UPS.:D

good tips

Race #53 and SW F/O,

Good tips on getting "A" boarding passes, I look forward to giving it a try.

And "TexaSWA", Everybody knows, if it absolutely, positively, has to be there overnight - you send it FedEx! :D

You're right... I stand corrected. I do remember at UAL that the "economy plus" was usually assigned last to the premium customers. Often, as a NRSA passenger you would get these seats as a result of the last minute policy. Again, I stand corrected... thanks for being to quick to set me straight. We cannot allow bad information to be disseminated on this board.

I'm sorry some of you folks don't like our product. It goes back to that choice thing I suppose. But I am not going to quit my SWA job over it. Sorry. Being that UAL no longer has an available position for me I guess I'll just have to stick it out here and enjoy my life.

When a narrowbody jet has 22 rows of 6 seats plus another row of 5 seats, that's 137 seats. If they're all full, 45 passengers are sitting in a middle seat. On one airline they got assigned that seat somewhere before entering the jetway, on SWA they get that seat either because they were willing to take a middle seat so they could either (a) sit closer to the front of the plane, (b) sit next to some particular person, (c) sit in a particular row {lounge or exit row}, or (d) because they had no other choice. But in any event, 45 people get a middle seat EITHER WAY.

Now, if the airplane has, say, 100 people on it (73% full), on SWA the first 92 of them get to DECIDE if a middle seat (near the front / in the exit row / next to whomever) is preferable to an aisle/window seat. The last 8 may be stuck with only a middle seat, unless at least 8 of the first 92 took a middle seat for whatever reason, then they'll also have some window/aisle option. AND THEY ALL GET TO CHOOSE WHOM THEY SIT NEXT TO!

With a reserved seat, there may be plenty of open seats on the plane, but when your ticket puts you next to some large or smelly or otherwise offensive traveler, and in front of a kindergardner who kicks your seat & bangs on the tray table, and directly behind an infant having a really bad day, your options to "choose a different seat" are really nonexistent. On SWA, everyone except the last few has more ability to choose whom they'll sit next to (or away from).

Having boarded SWA at the back end of the C group plenty of times, I'll say that there is a lot to be said for being able to pick your seatmate!

Snoopy ->Excellent point...

Snoopy58,

On the LAX-LAS weekend flights I have boarded on the C group and chosen to seat next to the prettiest stripper available. Also, given the Southwest policy of COS (charging largely obese people), you would not be forced to seat next to a person that would ocupy half your seat. Furthermore, if you watch the show Airline you'll see that Southwest employees have the balls to tell passengers that reek, that their hygeine is not acceptable and force them to take action. I happen to love the policy at Soutwest but I can see that there are people that hate it if they do not know how to use it to their advantage.
