What does "I'd like to request...." mean? Are you actually requesting something or just thinking out loud about something you would like? How about "FLT...Request...."

...what he said.

I think the two identical threads you posted are in heated competition. Both have grown quite long.

I bet you've asked unicom plenty of times what the "active" was....

Nope, never asked unicom which runway was "active". Why would anyone ask a line guy how to land their airplane????

Besides, like I said, there is no such thing as an active runway at an uncontrolled field.

The New York Center way to check in is:

"Flt 123 checkin' in at FL350....any chance direct Carmel, or should I go **** myself"?

GD it, that's hilarious!

If you really want to stop wasting time, why don't you encourage everyone to LISTEN to their new frequency for just a few painful seconds before checking in, instead of immediately checking in like an idiot and not realizing their stepping all over someone on the new freq.

My HERO!
Whats the huge hurry to step on someone, and transmit prior to listening to see if the freq is congested, or not?

Mach 80.....why don't you get elected to congress and do some bitching there???

WAAAAAHHHHHHHH......whine whine whine!!!!!

Get the f*ck over it. Surely you've got better thing to do than bitch about something so small. If not, then grow the f*ck up.

Amen to Corbon. Mach 80 and others need to find some hobbies on their days off. I'm not gonna hang on every transmission to make sure it's AIM approved. If "cleared to go" comes out of my mouth, then so be it. Half the time I can't even keep my flight number correct, let alone get perfect ATC verbage. So 80, I take it you always check in "one-tree thousand for flight level one-niner zero?" Uh-huh...Just enjoy the easiest job you'll ever have, and quit your bitchin'

Guys, quit the student pilot "with you" when talking to controllers. It's redundant and a waste of time and makes you sound like a student pilot. They KNOW you are "with" them by the mere fact you are talking to them. It's goofy and a waste of time.

I'd say that anyone who's lame enough to give a **** about stuff like this is probably uncomfortably close to their sudent pilot days themselves.

Followed a guy through at least a half dozen sectors and he signed off of each with:
"Been great workin' with you."
Figured he had to be retiring or something, but have heard him again since.

How about "on the deck" as called out by the majority of DL pilots?

How about responding to the wrong "ACEY" callsign as called out by majority of the ASA pilots.
SCOPE OUT

ok this is actually a question not flamebait...I frequently hear someone checking onto approach or center by simply stating their callsign and information without addressing who they are talking to...example..."Delta 1611, FL330"...is that textbook??..it doesnt bother me im just curious

I think it would be preferred. Same with Ground, Tower, Departure... etc. I mostly just give callsign and location, mostly.

yea they should be expecting you so it should not be a problem, i dont have a problem with it, but that being said I can think of a nightmare senario where this could lead to a "problem"

Those are the same guys that get bitched at in EWR and tie up the frequency when they don't say hold short. "Okay Delta 1611 I need to hear you read back 'hold short' please."

I'll say that when I'm not sure which Center I am talking to. :erm: Or if it is a Center frequency vs. an Approach one.

Saying with you isnt going to get anyone killed....

Shouldnt we go back to talking about who is going to buy comair? It was a useless argument thats much more relevant than this one.

Definately one of the most pointless threads i've read so far. We all got much bigger things to worry about. But, sadly I read every post. Guess I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines!

Ah, my personal favorite. I also like the variation that you'll hear sometimes.

"Bankrupt Air 1234 descend and maintain flight level 340"

"3-4-0, here we go", like he's suiting up to go into a burning building. Just roll in the altitude, ****************************** bag.

I've flown with guys who use this technique. Controllers tend to miss more of these guys calls, because it catches them off gaurd. Remember controllers aren't staring at the scope every second waiting for you to check in. They have distractions and other duties just like we do, and if you chime in "Bankruptcy Air 1234, flight level 3-3-0" they may or may not catch it if they are doing something else, and if they don't then you have to make another call. If you check in "Atlanta Center *pause* Bankruptcy Air 1234, flight level 3-3-0" they will almost always catch it unless they are telling dirty jokes to there fellow controllers.

They are wrong as are many in acadamia who teach theory but have little real experience. "With you" is simply a bad habit that's ingrained but highly unnecessary.

Look in the AIM for how to "check in" with ATC. See if you find "with you" in there.

Say what you normally say, just leave out "with you". It works fine without the wasted time and obvious redundancy.

Also, it's "cleared for take-off" not "cleared to go".

And try to request something rather than asking "any chance" too.

What an ANAL PR*CK. Im guessing its not professional or correct to say "Good Day". I for one will always say "with you" from now on just because you made me lose the Steak dinner i just had.

I couldnt imagine flying with you.. nit picking about everything under the sun. I would become an FFDO just so I could shoot myself if I were unlucky enough to sit next to you. Get a life. :uzi:

I still think the worst communication is Socal at LAX.

There is some guy who works rush hour in the morning that just says flight numbers. People miss calls left and right because you just hear numbers.

ex: "165 left 240"

Once you get used to it you get better at recognizing who he's talking to, but it's still confusing.

ooohhh yeah, those guys drive me crazy, ESPECIALLY when automated weather is on the field. I do some part-time instructing to a gentleman who bases his plane at a very busy non-towered field underneath class B, we'll be one of six aircraft in the pattern....some redneck in his Bonanza calls 10 out for an airfield advisory and while stepping all over everyone else....then you don't hear from him again until he calls final as he just blasted in front of you and everyone else.

sorry, I couldn't resist throwing my two cents in.....
