I want to thank the Chinese worker for thier political oppression and working conditions that we wouldn't subject our house pets to for all of the lovely Christmas,...oops I mean Happy December, gifts. Even my LLBean slippers are chinese. And they were very cost unit effective.

Over 80% of the gifts under the tree were from China. Nice.

Hopefully in the near future, a chinaman will make them, another will fly them and yet another will deliver them right to my door.

(disclaimer: Nothing against the chinese, rather ourselves for our hyper consumption life style. more More MORE! Gimmie, I want it all!)

Dripping with sarcasm......

We have only ourselves to blame. Price is king with the American public. We'll happily buy an $8 shirt that's made by kids in Maylasia over a $12 shirt made here, and we go to Wal Mart for everything, instead of supporting Johnson's Hardware and Mid-Town TV and Appliance.

The only way we could stem the offshore flow would be for the American public to make an effort to Buy American. There was a little of that right after 9/11, but now we're back to buying cheap.

Ah one of my favorite rants. I lay the bulk of the blame on the guberment for their burdersome taxes and laws/regulations, the sue happy lawyers, the greedy business leaders who have no conscience, and to a certain degree the buying public for not being more on guard.
Just wonder how long will it last? 20 years from now who will be able to afford the $80 Nikes? If the guberment isn't careful there will be no more wages to tax (to save the children of course) because we'll all be out of work. Maybe that is the future. You either work for the guberment or work at a retail store selling Chinese merchandise. With Bush wanting to ease the immigration laws I see the USA becoming a (more) confused culture with no identity and lowering the bar when it comes to labor competition.
I am still amazed at the wealth of this country despite all the jobs going over seas. Speculate a lot of it is due to service type industries and entertainment....or we're all living off our credit cards and/or loans!
Read an interesting book over Christmas, "How Wal-mart is Destroying America" by Bill Quinn. The guy obviously hates WallyWorld but has some valid points.
VADRVR, LLBean used to have some merchandise made in the USA like pants, jeans, and shirts. Haven't had a need to order in a year so maybe it has changed. BTW, read where the Chinese are going to start making their own RJ's.

Breaking out of a price based mentality should be a goal of America.

Most of those people shopping at Wal-Mart would drive 20 miles to save five cents on a gallon of gas.

Tools. I recieved alot of tools for X-mas (it's what I asked for...I'm getting ready to take the plunge and buy a house, one of those "I need some work but not too much" kinda places) and all of the tools were made in the U.S.A. Most of them were Craftsman. Most of the respectable tool brands ARE made in the US. I think that tools are all that's left that you can be sure of being made in America.
