Wind Shear

I didn't know that wind shear was classified this way...

only that at some point "wind shear" is classified as "severe wind shear" (as defined in your ops specs, at least for a 121 carrier)

I didn't either. I'm involved in an accident investigation and during a (manufacturers) sim re-creation the wind shear inputs were classified as LVL 1 and 2. I wasn't at the simulation, I did recieve the report which mentioned the shears. I can't find anything FAA or NOAA docs that refer to LVL 1 or 2. Might be new terminology.

Maybe just a "standard" in sim programming??? Like setting the wind shear at "Level One", and that corresponding to a preset shear in knots??? Just a thought...maybe a check airmen who operates sims could shed some light......
