The NTSB is investigating why a China Airlines Airbus
with 250 passengers took off on a taxiway in the wrong
direction rather than the proper runway at Anchorage
International Airport. The plane was directed to take
off on the northbound runway, instead, it took off on
the westbound taxiway. Investigators are calling the
incident "quite serious." The plane did take off, but
the plane's landing gear struck a snow berm. The NTSB
plans to listen to tapes of the radio transmissions
between the China Airlines cockpit and the control
tower to determine what went wrong. The weather at
the time was clear.
