Had a little gem happen to me for a trip next week. I traded for a 1312 paying trip last week, dh to ord, ord-ind, ind-bos, layover in bos and then go bos-ewr and ewr-mem the next night. Not bad as I live in BOS and would have come home. I remember this being disputed last month, but I checked and it is not disputed this month, probably because they layed over in BOS.

Anyway, without any notice whatsover, I check my calendar. Now the bos-ewr leg is right after the ind-bos leg, and now the pay has dropped to 1200 instead of 1312. exactly why the union disputed it last month.

I go to drop the trip, insufficient reserves, thankfully I was able to trade off of it. Pisses me off, these little games they play.

That's the trip that I accidently did! It was disputed because of the BOS-EWR leg (which was a repo leg at that). That's what made it bad. That's pretty shady that they rebuilt the trip into the old disputed pairing AFTER you had it.

Zman: You should send the sig an email detailing the changes. I think they and the rest of the union will be very interested in those changes.

Zman - putting the dispute aside for a moment, they shouldn't have dropped your pay like that. If you had trip guarantee for the trip, you would still get the 1312 even if they decided to make it a 1200 trip. You need to check your pay summary in VIPS if it happens again to make sure you are getting the correct amount of pay. They can always raise the pay on a trip, but they can't lower it!

I agree with Falconjet and Herk, 1) e-mail the SIG 2) your trip guarantee would(should) have protected your pay[in the same way that when a hard-time trip blocks different than planned you still get the higher of two]

This would seem to violate the 'involuntary assignment of a disputed pairing to someone not on reserve' concept. If the flying is actually disputed; I think we lost our ability to dispute this one because we had flown it for so long. Either way, it's a ********************ty deal.

Later!

Not so black and white

Upon further thought, capt_zman has brought up an interesting issue with regards to disputed pairings. Once a pairing is considered disputed, the company can always change it. For instance, in ANC, one of the disputed pairings for Aug is trip 61. In the old days (about three months ago) if the trip was revised, it was now known as trip 1061. With some of the new changes in VIPS, now that trip would be known as 61 Rv. 01. Now lets say you were a very diligent crewmember and not only knew which pairings were disputed, but also why they were disputed. You also notice with the new revised pairing, the disputed part of the pairing has been fixed, so you decide to pick it up.

Two days after picking it up, you check VIPS, and get a crew notification. Upon checking it, you see that trip 61 has been revised (again), and is now trip 61 Rv. 02. Guess what, the disputed part of the trip is back in the pairing! Is this underhanded and sneaky? You bet! Is it happening? I don't know; does anyone have any stories like this? It appears like capt_zman's story above is along the lines of the scenario I've spelled out.

I guess my point of all this is that you must be very careful of picking up disputed pairings even after they have been "fixed". While I believe your intentions are sincere, you may unwittingly look like the bad guy. I do suggest if something like this happens to you to let the union know right away, and give them the specifics. I'm not sure what can be done though.

Also realize that in the example above, we started with a disputed pairing and changed it twice. I guess the same thing could happen with a non-disputed pairing - it could be changed into a disputed one, although there is no formal way of calling a pairing disputed after the lines are released as far as I know.

active_herk is right on with what happened. I picked up pairing 230 rv 01 last week, with 1312 credit (checked alpa, and this pairing was disputed in july, but was fixed for aug). yesterday I check my schedule, mostly for initial check in, and the pairing has been changed (no vips crew notification) with the bos-ewr leg moving to the morning. I noticed at the top of the pairing (still shown as rv 01) that the pay was now 1200 instead of 1312. I did not check my pay summary as it was an afterthought by then, as I was getting rid of this trip anyway.

After I traded off of the trip, I noticed it in open time, still listing 1312 and rv 01, but showing 1200 in the pairing details. Now it has changed to rv 02 and lists 1200 for credit. So I have no idea if it was a work in progress and I just happened to catch it at the beginning or if this was intentional. Either way I feel bad for the reserve guy who gets this.

I'll email this to the sig and see what happens.

ANother important point.... if you end up on one of these disputed pairings, and found it fatiguing, WRITE UP A REPORT. If no one is complaining about it, they will get to use it and evetually SIG won't be able to dispute it because now a precedence will be set.
