I was at the airport the other day and I thought I heard an old warbird or something like that with a loud radial engine taking off, so I turned around and it was a Challenger. It was making the wierdest noise I've ever heard a jet make, and I've heard a ton of jets take off because I work line service at the airport. A netjets pilot that was next to me was saying he's never heard that before either and was wondering if the engine was gonna quit or fall off or something. Anybody know what this might have been?

I bet it was the RAT (Ram Air Turbine)... It is basically a prop driven generator the can be extended into the airstream and generate electrical and/or hydraulic power in the event of a total electrical and/or hydraulic failure... (not sure if the Challenger version does electrical or both electrical and hydraulic...

Now WHY it was out, that is another story...

Ram Air Turbine

You sure they werent testing out the new chem disperal packs? Corporate aircraft are now being equipped with these.:D

might be a market for something like that.... strap it on and make some good noise. Kind of like clipping playing cards on your bike forks!
