I fly for a US based regional on a RJ as CPT.
recently I was offered 2 jobs outside the US (not Africa or Middle east or other weirdo countries by the way) where for the same position one company would pay $
6500, the other 8600 per month+ other benefits.
the question rises; Why in the world here we have to get peed on the hand and then slapped in the face where elsewhere they treat pilots like upper scale pro??
dang ALPA and its infinite bs.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just a bit angry cuz don' t want to live....................

Because american carriers have overall RPM/CASM targets they must meet. They can't support high paying jobs, even if the pilots demanded more. To get a salary like that you would have to cut capacity by 80%. i.e if mesa suddenly doubled its rates, it would lose capacity and unit costs would shrink even further thus driving the numbers more into the red. The US airline industry has way too much capacity in it to support those types of salaries.
If airlines have to recruit bums off the street to work for these pay rates they WILL. It just so happens real professionals are jumping over each other and dropping thousands to make pennies.

So did you take the job or what,

AND, you don't want to live or leave. Which is it, cuz my hand is on the phone with 911.

for YOURPILOFRIEND: YOU are right! It is unfortunate though.

No I am not. just mispelled (sorry). That's what happen after a good old bottle of tequila trying to figure things out.

Not knowing which two countries you're referring to, I'm just guessing, but generally speaking, they have serious pilots shortages and the cost of living is outrageous.

Had a friend take a contract position in africa, CRJ capt. 8000-10000/month. +2000/month perdiem. 8 weeks on 4 weeks off. No paid perdiem on days off. Free beer and meals at the crew compound. Not a bad gig.....Oh and Biz class back and forth, they buy your ticket.

Oh and they are paying f/o's 3-6000/month +2000 per diem.

Then why are almost a third of the FOs I fly with from another country? It seems if things were so good elsewhere they would not come here and take pilot jobs...

Because they don' t have the license to fly in EU.
the JAA license is the equivalent of a 4 year degree almost, besides to rent a c-172 cost you $ 250 x hr.
It is easier to came here do the FAA and then convert it.
Capisc???

8 weeks on, meaining your in country (i.e. out of the US on the contract) for 8 weeks. Then they buy you a ticket home, for four weeks off. While your on contract, you have days off, just not at your house.
As to why someone would do it. find another RJ job, or much less any other, paying 12k to start?
Last I talked to my buddy, he was drinking free heiniken, in the crew compound, eating free (i.e. not spending a dime of his own) convorting with Aussie and Eqptian f/a's he's been flying with.
