I've always wondered why MESA has their own pilot school?

For the same time invested and about half the money, you could be a CFI/MEI with 1000/100+...and you probably would not want to work at mesa.

JO get's those suckers to pay him a bunch of dough and invest 2 years of their time, after which they are not employable in aviation...except by mesa.

But they've had this program since the early 90s were they struggling to find pilots back then?

make $$ on MAPD? The college probably makes some ka-ching but not Mesa. At one point last year they were paying over $4/gal for 100LL and the A36 was billing for around $120/hr. That's 15-20 GPH @ $4/gal. Hardly making money off of that. Also, there were paying instructors on overtime 20% more then they were charging students for instruction.
