Just curious, but why do airlines bother to advertise? Especially the ones that are listed on sites such as Orbitz and Travelocity... The way people are these days, most are going to chose the airline that they have never even heard of as long as it's the cheapest, even if only by a few dollars. Just as long as it gets them where they want to go when they want to be there.
I see Airlines that sponsor sports venues, spend millions on commericals and wonder why they just don't spend all that money on keeping their airline out of bankruptcy instead of marketing to people who could care less what the name on the tail is.

It's not just about the cheapest, but also about non-stops and creature comforts like TV's and mileage points. Airlines need to get this info out so they can compete.

I have to agree most are pointless. Like the American "We know why you fly" ads.
 
The profit is with the people willing to pay a little above the minimum, i.e. people who travel on business. That's the target market of most airline advertising.
