YOU look at a pilot with a backpack and think "no big deal". I look at a pilot with a backpack and think "unprofessional doosh"
We were all waiting to hear what you think.

I see Delta pilots with back packs all the time now. But usually it's hooked to the suitcase, not carried on the person.
I think you guys worry about stupid stuff. Who cares what anyone carries, your luggage isn't what makes you a professional. And 90% of the comments on this site are a lot more unprofessional than carrying a backpack.
Even if they are clueless alarms internally are raised with spiked hair, ear buds and back packs. I certainly wouldn't want my family flying with someone who obviously was so screwed up personally
If had hair I would spike it just to piss off people like you, the pack I already have.
Here's a reason. Carrying a backpack is specifically prohibited by the uniform standards in the FOM. (ExpressJet)
As is walking through the airport with your ear buds in.
As is wearing your The North Face soft shell jacket with your uniform.
As is wearing black Sketchers.
I could go on.
Look up the definition of uniform.
If you want to look like a professional.....you wear a tie and carry a briefcase, or a leather bag, not a friggin Pack Pack
Funny as my company's FOM lists what type pack is acceptable .
That is funny. That's why the rest of us laugh at you guys behind your backs.
It's not too big a deal as long as you don't walk around with BOTH straps fastened....over the shoulder who cares, but hiked up with both straps makes you look STUPID and NERDY!!!
Ahhh the man purse...If you're carrying books, computer, iPad, FFDO equipment, etc, the only thing as practical as a back pack is this.

But most pilots won't pony up, and they don't come in black.
