I've been out of the aviation game since about December. Still flying but not in the job market. Been selling real estate and thinking of getting back into aviation and on with a regional. I have about 1200TT and ~380ME, 4 yr degree in aviation. I'd be commuting from Orlando. What's my best bet? Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

Stay in Real Estate!! Nothing personal, just do some reading on these boards. Make a good living and fly for fun with your earnings.

(If you do make the change for the love of god stay away from blowjets...)
 
Thanks for the replies! Keep them coming. I enjoy real estate, but it's not the gold mine everyone seems to think it is. I intend to keep my license active but my dream has always been to fly jets. I read about all the abuse you guys take in the regionals and believe me, it's no different in real estate. Especially in the slowing market we are in now. Not to metion, your always treated like a scumbag salesman who's out to screw people when in reality, it's the exact opposite. At least in my case.
 
SkyWest is hiring 70 pilots every 3 weeks for the remainder of the year. With your flight time, it should be easy to get an interview. You could definitely commute to ORD, our most Easterly (and junior) RJ base. I've lived in Florida before, however, and gotta tell you that keeping MCO as a domicle doesn't make much sense to me. Let's see; heat, humidy, nasty biting insects, hurricanes, rednecks....have I skipped anything? There is a reason ORD is a junior base with SkyWest....not too many folks want to live East of the Rockies :-)
 
Apply everywhere, including the T-prop regionals. Take the first job offer you get. Build your resume with MEL turbine time, start looking for your next job, and keep repeating this process until you get into a career position. You will most likely have to move to make this happen. If you like to fly you can make it.
 
With your flight time and the area you live, how about charter or corp flying? You could get part-time work flying a jet and selling houses-imho

Great post! This is the best advice anyone can give. I have nothing to add!
 
Screw a regional job and go fly cargo. Look at Ameriflight or Airnet and you'll be in a lear in about three years. Oh, and you'll earn twice as much money too.
 
Thanks guys. I know a cuople corporate operators in the area but none of them will touch me with my times. It seems to be getting harder to get a corporate job without a type. Plus I only have maybe 10 hours of jet experience which is nothing. I keep reading how bad ASA is, but it seems they would be the easiest commute. I'm just looking to build some jet time for a year or two and then try to get a corporate gig. Still deciding what I want to do.
 
Alot of times the cargo route is an easier way into the corporate world. Two good friends of mine left our employer for Corporate Jobs. One had been flying a Seneca, and the other a Baron. Now they are flying a Lear 60 and a Lear 45 respectively. They each flew cargo for about a year before getting their jobs. And as for myself, like an idiot, I went into the regional market. Hindsight is 20/20.
