Not sure just why I find this story so interesting other than the fact that the pilot involved is such a fine person that it does my heart good to see someone accomplish what others would find impossible if not unlikely.
The pilot in question, first of all had a incredible Navy career rising to the rank of Captain. Two seasons as lead pilot in the Blues, numerous citations and medals from Vietnam, plus a blue water carrier command to top off the final years of his career. The later occurred during a major furlough at the airline he was woking for. You would never know that his background was so rich as he would never invoke any of the accomplishments in his past without good reason.
Bails out of Delta a little early to protect his lump sum. Was originally a Western guy so he didn't have that major retirement that the Delta guy would have come out with assuming they both finished up with the same number of years.
Starts looking for a job using his past experience. Finds one pretty darn quickly flying a GV for a Fortune 500 start up and to top it off they are in the initial stages of putting a B767ER into service for the owners of the company.
So I guess you might call him lucky, but I think life is what you make of it, or at least in this case, it would appear so.
