Saw a job ad on Planejobs for all positions for "Arrow Cargo" out of MIA. Never heard of them, wondering if anyone has and what the scoop is?
 
Arrow air is / was Fine Air, flying out of mia with old DC8's and I believe L1011.
Fine Air, a few years back they had PFT for the new F/Os. The name is gone now is only Arrow Air.
 
Thanks for the info. A couple of other questions if you happen to know...

Their pay is listed at $89 per hour 1st year CA, but only a 55 hour guarantee. How much do you actually fly and what can you expect a monthly paycheck to be? (only 4,895 per month / $58,740 per year - not exactly "stellar" for a DC-8 Captain).

Do you have a hard line from day one or do you go sit reserve somewhere and for how long?

How many days on / days off is a normal rotation? How many days off in a normal month?

If and when they phase out the 8's, do the pilots get to bid over to another aircraft or are they furloughed out of seniority in preference of current and qualified people on the other fleet type? (a la' Falcon Air and Transmeridian to name a few).

Right now I'm flying left seat on a CRJ but used to fly 727's cargo and miss the cargo lifestyle, but I get 11 or 12 days off a month and make about $65,000 a year before per diem or taxes so it'd have to be a decent pay increase or quality of life increase without a pay cut to make it worthwhile...

Wrong,

Fine Air is no more, Arrow is currently flying DC-10's as well as purchasing more of them, although there are still some DC-8-63's left. There are no L1011's, and there is DEFINITELY no PFT.

Lear ARROW is not worth your time. They started flying again back in August of last year after the 3rd Chapter 11 in like 6 years. New owners but they are really hurting for DC8 and DC10 pilots bad. So bad that they are hiring guys with questionable histories as pilots. There is an Open House this weekend at Aero Service in Miami and they are one of the companies that are going to be there.
 
Bummer for them... and us. If they paid about $10k a month for CA's and 5k for F/O's and F/E's, plus paid training and decent schedules, they probably wouldn't have that problem, now would they? :D

Wrong, again!

You have to pass the U.S. Customs background check to work at Arrow, just so that people who have questionable histories won't be able to make it through the background check. The pilots who couldnt pass the check are gone. It is a requirement now, just to be able to be around the international cargo, which is all of it. The company is also conducting a pretty extensive check on its own, because of the type of flying there.

Ahhh, forget about it, you seem like you have some kind of chip on your shoulder, or some kind of grudge against the company anyway. By the way, you do get paid while you are in training, and the pilots just got a 15% raise. (not yet reflected in airlinepilotpay.com)

Paid what while in training?
Full guarante, or half or what?
Per-Diem while in training as well?



If a company needs to do the open house stuff to recruit flight crews, they are usually on the low end of the pay scales.
Like Air Atlanta, Laker, Southern, etc

(Went to the last "open house" in MIA and met the Laker Team, the nice girl dressed up as a pilot said: "You don't really want to work here". Guess she was right..They must have had the lowest paid 727 crews on the planet..Heard they went belly up the other day. R.I.P)
 
"Questionable Histories" to me doesn't just mean people with skeletons in their closet that might make them unemployable, it also brings into the equation SCABS (although with them quickly nearing the age 60 limit that gets to be less and less of an issue as years wear on), as well as people who just can't play nice with others (you know the kind of captains I'm talking about), and other "fun" people to fly with.

I've personally seen what needing warm bodies in the seat can do to a hiring program and there's one in every dozen that looks good on paper and at the interview then makes a crew's life miserable one or two months a year. I hope that's not what was being referred to...

As far as pay during training, schedules, etc, that's more what I was looking for on here; does anyone know about their QOL from management, schedules, and real-life paychecks?
 
I don't know about any scabs being hired, but I can only speak for myself on that matter.

As far as the other questions, it's too early to tell. The mgt. has been very nice, and the DC-10 program is ramping up which should provide some good opportunites for long-haul $$ making flying.

Not trying to sound like I just had a big gulp of Kool-Aid, but the company is under new management, buying airplanes, expanding business, and the pilots are not getting laid off and just got a raise. There aren't a whole lot of airlines around anymore that can claim that. The short bankruptcy re-organization is past history now, and the union, with a new chairman, is very proactive with management to improve areas that affect the pilots and QOL. The pilot training department has an outstanding director who is creating a very positive environment.

If you are in MIA, the job-fair at Aeroservices is in full-swing right now, why not go check it out for yourself and get some answers. Just about every cargo company is there, including Arrow (represented by the Chief Pilot) , Polar, Atlas, Tradewinds, etc. today. I think there is also an open house in Dallas with JetBlue, Southwest, UPS, FedEx, etc....

New-hires are on training pay, transitioning pilots are on guarantee with per-diem just like almost any other airline. The training pay won't make you rich by any means but it has been enough to pay the bills during the month and a half of training.

I can only speak for the "job fairs" I have attended in MIA, did not see any JetBlue or SWA there for sure.
Or FDX, UPS etc.

Air Atlanta however is in the middle of a huge expansion and are desperate for crews...The problem is converting the FAA licenses to the Icelandic ones.
To get an easy conversion, the applicant needs a typr-rating..That is where Aero Services comes in, the sell 747 ratings at about $10K a pop...They also house the job fairs...More customers, more business.

Don't recall seeing Arrow Air down there....
