Whistler BC (or similar ski ideas)

Going to be taking a ski trip this winter with some friends and we're thinking about whistler bc. heard it has some great skiing along with lots of night life. just wondered if anyone knows of any discounts we get as far as the skiing or places to stay. where would be a good place to stay to be close to everything? also open to any other suggestions about other good places to go for skiing/nightlife.

Whistler is a great place to ski. There are a couple of things to keep in mind. 1- it is VERY expensive. Hotels in both the Whistler and Blackcomb area cater to high net worth customers. Little or no discounting is ever done. Rates are at or above Aspen in high season.
2- getting there is a little difficult lately. The "Sea to Sky" highway is under major reconstuction to prepare it for the up-coming Olympics. There has been many accidents, some fatal, since the re-build began. The drive from Vancouver is now an adventure with many delays.

That said it is a great place to be. Great snow and night life (if you have the cash). It is isolated so you are a credit card hostage til you get back to CYVR .

No other ski destination in North America beats Whistler/Blackcomb! Me and a friend went 2 winters ago on passes to seattle. If you plan on going, stay anywhere in whistler village. The best place to stay would be the Chateau or the Pan Pacific (both 5 star), but anything in the villlage or uppper village would be perfect. If there are more than a few of you, it is definitely worth renting a car (bus = $120 CAD round trip or something like that). However, the most fun we had was when we stayed in the youth hostel in Squamish (45 min. from the mountain) for next to nothing, packed our lunches, and bought discount lift tickets in WA at the local supermarkets. You can't go wrong with over 7000 skiable acres and lots of gladed stuff. I have also stayed at the summit lodge and spa, another boutique type place right in the village. As far as flight crew discounts, I don't know. Good luck, have fun, and DEFINITELY give these great mountains a try.

Yeah the sea to sky highway is pretty bad these days. I did it about a month ago and it was pretty slow going at times. Extensive Construction.

There used to be a train from Vancouver to the mountains--is that still running? Also, look for B & B there are several very nice, plain, clean places close to the village. Better still ski on the other side of the mountains, go to Montana for powder up to you waist and blue skies!!
