Time for me to renew and just wondering which course is better. I have used Gleim the last couple times i have needed to renew. $100 each time and is pretty quick and easy. On the other hand American Flyers has the $125 life time renewal. However, I have heard that program is a little more time consuming (ie. you have to watch presentations and cant skip ahead until youve put in a certain amount of time). any input and suggestions would be great.

I just finished the American Flyers renewal and it wasn't very hard, but it was a little time consuming. I would still rather pay $125 once for the American Flyers lifetime program than have to shell out $100 every two years.

American Flyers.. Pay once.. never pay again for the rest of you life!

they require you spend X amount of time of "study" on each section, ther are 6 sections. Just open the browser and leave it on for 1 hr or what ever they require. Then go take the quiz, and open one window with the quiz, and another window with the "study material" OPEN BOOK TEST!

Got to love it!

If recurring cost is an issue, go with American Flyers. Like someone said above, just keep your browser open to rack up the required time, then take the test at the end.

Not a bad deal for lifetime renewals!

i used gleim last july...i don't know if anything has changed since then...but it was straight forward and relatively easy to complete...i would recommend gleim

I wanted to do the AOPA course, you know support G.A. and all that. Looked at Gleim which seemed easier and cheaper. Settled on American Flyers: how can you beat the deal?

Besides, I set the timer on my microwave and went to shake up a couple of Martinis with friends and when the time went off after ten minutes, I hit "refresh" button on the webpage to satisfy the regulartory gods...

Gotta love the FAA.

I took the Jeppesen course last year and I think that it was on a par with the Gliem...I have heard the same about the American Flyers course and decided to stay away from it. I was pretty happy with the Jepp course.

I've done Jepp and Gleim and like the Jepp a little better. Both get the job done just as quick.

Hmmm, which scenario makes more sense... save $25 this year, but have to shell out $100 every other year. Do AF and you'll never have to pay for it again. There's no way the quality of the Gleim or Jepp is so much better that it's worth $100 every 2 years! I did AF, it was easy and I'll never pay for it again.

100 bucks every two years doesnt seem too bad. I have to renew mine by June so I am shopping around also. The quicker the better.

Go with american flyers

I just renewed mine on with american flyers. Just changed the next page every 10 mins. and enjoyed t.v. also it can be done as an open book test (see above post). I even if you only get 2 renuals out of them it has more than payed for its self, and at one it is worth the gamble if you ask me.

OK guys, seriously. Am I the only one here who has kept his CFIs' current for over 15 years and only done the renewal courses twice?
How is this possible?

I am doing the af right now and it is real time consuming...and a pain in the butt...

There are some FSDO's that will renew your CFI for free (no matter how many sign offs you have) if you are a 121 pilot. I have yet to pay for a renewal so far. Check it out. Good luck!
