Going from the east coast to the Middle East I've done the Shannon thing and also tried Genoa Italy for fuel. Any other places that anyone has tried for a quick and easy in and out without 30 knot winds or mountains on the approaches. Also needs to be open all night...Thanks in advanced

What about Santiago, Spain? They are open all night, though the weather sometimes gets a bit foggy. Not the best great circle distance. However, I've gotten a quick turn there even late (11 PM) at night. Accoding to my flightplanner, it is a bit off your direct course. Just a thought.

I just did a quick calculation based on these cities only, your results may vary.

Teterborough to Santiago = 3300 NM Great Circle
Santiago to Cairo = 2359 NM Great Circle
Total = 5659 NM

Teterborough to Cairo = 5619 Great Circle

So we are talking 40 nm further. Anyway, I like Santiago, nice long runway.

Ever been to Keflavik (BIKF)? We use it as a tech stop to and from Europe, and it's great. Don't know where you're going in the Middle East, but it's 3,500 nm to Jedda. Might be a bit too close to the States, and I didn't check the great circle. You're probably coming from too far south. An ILS each way, good runways, great approach lights, and low traffic count. These folks are really glad to get the business, and we're typically on the ground for less than 40 minutes. They have a very nice FBO with a lounge for the pax to stretch their legs.
You're established at altitude well before you coast-in, so you're not stuck low trying to climb to cruise over France.

London (easy to crew swap if needed, fast turn Luton and Standsted)

Rome (have had decent turns there also)

BIKF seems (?) a bit out of the way...although they have EINN type quick turns and cute chiks..but I have also nearly missed many times due to wx in BIKF.

Whats wrong with Shannon? It really just cant be beat for the quickturn IMHO.

I guess it also depends where you are going in the Mideast.(example: Amman or Dubai) I have gotten screwy routing over The Kingdom that has left me a wee bit shorter than I wanted on fuel into Dubai..

eh...screw it...trade it in on a G550 or a Global and ditch that fuel stop! (haha)

It's late and I'm getting bleary-eyed, so I missed that the readout above was in statute miles. The NM total distance is 4918 through Santiago and 4,883 Great Circle for a total difference of 35 NM. Good night all.

Give Naples/Capodichino a try; field is open 24 hr, gas available w/ OT charge. Mountains to the west and south but the controllers will keep you away. ILS 24 is probably the longest in the world (IAF at 7k’, 20NM). VOR 06 can be a little gusty coming over the beach w/ the hills to the left of c/l but other wise piece of cake. Wx this time over year shouldn’t be a factor, winds usually 180@10. Late at night you’ll get the same guy on app/twr/gnd and may even get cleared for the approach and to land at the handoff from Roma. Several federal agencies use it for a gas stop with their G-IV on a similar trip (on the USN ramp of course), and I’ve seen plenty of US registered corp a/c on the commercial ramp.

Good luck!

italy fuel prices high--all tax....naples 4.96 - so i would rethink Italy. Naples ramp tight, crowded and facilities suck. italians slow. not the best option. ireland fuel is a lot cheaper. nicer. :)

I am not sure where you are departig from.

Helsinki or Stockholm work well our of NY if you are going to use the routes over Iraq or Afganastan.

If you plan on going down and around Saudi then Ireland is probably your best stop

Even though you are aware what gas is at the pump for the car (~1.20euro/L) back when I left, you forget how much it really is for the plane when Uncle Sam is paying the bill.

Good stop for the Feds & mil; unless the boss wants to go to Capri, maybe not so good for the corp types. Great food if you do get a chance to stop!

Have a good trip.

Thanks for the help...He is thinking about a Global or a 550.

Bobk, my boss is considering to buy a 900DX or EX Easy, If your boss want to buy the bigger one, he plans to sell their 900EX Easy, if so, when will be available?, and how many hours has?, also the crew is transferible to a caribbean location (we fly under Part 91)?

Thanks.

If he gets the Global or the 550 we will use the EASy for charter. THat will not happen till some time next year.

Might see you in Dubai - we just picked up 900easy # 146 a few weeks ago and currently am in Spain - going to Dubai on Wed for four nights. then off to Bali.

Regards

PS getting the Global 5000 next year but keeping the 900 also.
