My favorite travel author is Rick Steves. We stayed on Lido and in Treviso; no problems taking the train. Have a great time!

I lived in Italy for three years and worked with Italians. When I decided to go to Venice my Italian friends said to stay in Treviso, and it was a great idea. It's a beautiful town in its own right, and the train ride was pleasant. One of the best places to eat in Venice, and not known by many tourists, is the Trattoria La Madona. Cross the Rialto bridge and go left. It's been a long time, but I think it was up the 2nd or 3rd alley to the right. Great food and much better prices than on the St. Mark's side.
