The Manayunk section is where most people just out of college or in their early to mid to late 20's live in the Philly area. It's just north of the city on the east side of the Schuylkill River. The Schuylkill River is the one that runs out of the navy yard past center city along route 76 (Sckuylkill Expressway/aka the "Nascar expressway") and up to Pottstown not the Delaware River which divides PA and NJ (thank god) and runs along I95.
Manayunk is mostly old big row homes that rent out and there's also some apts. Most people living in Manayunk have a row home with 4 to 5 roomates. Its a big Irish section with many bars/clubs. Its just north of the road that goes down to the art museaum and boat house row where all the hotty chicks run and workout in the nice wx. Also the Fairmount Park area.
If your going to be working out of PNE there were (not sure if they are still around) a couple of apts. that were like CFI crashpads, meaning several CFI's in them, most of who worked at Hortman.
Where will you be working? Thats the biggest factor. Let me know and I can point you in a better direction.
I grew up about 30 miles north of the city in Solebury, PA outside of Doylestown. Half of my family is from Philly so I know it pretty well. Plus I've worked out of PNE (traffic and 135). TTN (CFI and 135). NXX (CFI) and am now based in PHL.
