So I am a CFI right now with 450TT and building hours fast (about 100-120 per month)..I also have 95 multi right now. I am looking into building the hours fast here and when it starts to slow down (Oct-Feb) i would like to find a job at a regional airline (I should have around 700TT at that point).

Do you think the regionals will be hiring like they are now even in those winter months?

Which regional will allow me to further build my hours fast (even while on reserve) and give me a resonable upgrade time to Capt (2 years or so...is that resonable?).

I know some of these questions have been asked a million times and i have searched the site for info...but i am looking into what will specifically work for me..So if you can help me out with some information i would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Capt O'B

You already have double the time Trans States is hiring at. You will be a captain in no time with the new lowered mins.

The sad thing is that my dual given is a little less than twice your total time. The really sad thing is that I only have one more multi hour than you. Good luck dude.

flight instructed, towed banners, flew 135 IFR SP cargo before I was "qualified" to apply to a "regional" airline with 2000 TT in 2000. Consider yourself lucky because I remember people begging for a job @ eagle with 500 PIC jet time when hiring sucked in '96ish. Not bashing on you, good luck...?

I love all of the negative people. I love my job and would not want to do anything different. 16 days off a month, weekends off, most holidays off, and decent pay, good luck to you.

Depends on where you live, if you can get on with a regional and you can be based near where you live it will make a huge difference. I have lived at my base for two years and it has been awesome. The upgrade is probably shortest at Pinnacle, Skywest, Colgan, Great Mistakes, etc...

I love it how people on this board tell people to get out of aviation. Meanwhile they are posting on an aviation forum?? Wtf?!?! If you hate aviation so much, don't post here, go post on the welding/driving school forum. If anyone is like myself, the reason we got into flying is because it's a passion. (hopefully) At first money might suck, but if you follow your dream, money will come.. It is not where you are at now, it is where you will be in 10 years!

Must have been a big jump for you going from the 172 to the CL900

I can always tell the low time guys on the radio.... they Fck almost everything up and get us guys violated. Do us all a favor, pay your dues and learn how to fly before you jump to a 30,000 lbs plus airplane.

Sad what this industry has come to.

The industry has come to this because of what all of the 'older, wiser' pilots have allowed it to become. My generation did not agree to all of the pay cuts and furloughs that have gone on, instead we are stuck dealing with what the 'real pilots' have screwed up for us.

#1 Find out who has the best QOL. If they have junior manning DONT GO THERE!
#2 Do not worry so much about upgrade time more who the heck you will be flying with as it is along month when you fly with an A**hole.
#3 Save Save Save! It is very hard to survive on 13K-15K a year in a large city your first year.

So make contacts and find people who are not drunk on the company Kool Aid and you will make the right choice.
