Saw the ad in USA today from APA pilots group making their management look like the thieves and cowards they are. Way to go AMR pilots...my hat's off to you. Where are ALPA's ads? It's highway robbery at it's worst especially here at UAL and nobody puts any ads in the papers???? Could it be our dues monies are spent on other "management" teams?

I thought the same thing regarding the "Whitlow Letter" interpretation. After the tragic accident at LIT, the APA was on the forefront to get the crew duty/rest interpretation we have in place today. ALPA made some more stickers.

If money talks.....

crew rest duty issue will be determined on CapHill, thru Congress...

If you look at the APA's lobby efforts and PAC money on CapHill and then look ALPA it is easy to see who is doing what.... If you want your union to spend money telling you they are working the issues so you don't have to ask, then that maybe fine...

The APA gave 197,000 to Fed elections

ALPA gave 1,557,500

Who do you think is going to get more face time?

Yuppy... how dare you??? Dontcha know, it's all about being pragmatic because being pragmatic gets stuff done. Those bunch of union rebels and thugs at APA and PATCO are the source of all the union evil.

FD-

I wouldn't say the APA and PATCO are evil. PATCO doesn't even exist. They did make mistakes that have put a bitter taste in the publics mouth for tolerance of unions...and that is a shame. These sick out and illegal strikes have really weakened air line unions. that isn't ALPA's fault.. ALPA is just a casautly of war or guilty by association... nonetheless..it is what it is...

The political world where ALPA operates is not the black and white science of airmanship. Airmanship skills have very little place in politics. Knowing limitations, control inputs and adhering to speed restrictions don't translate to workable methodologies in Washington DC.

ALPA's politial adversary on one issue might be an ally.

The fact is elected congressmen are going to vote on legislation that effects us. If we hate those congressmen, (say T. Kennedy) and reject them, they are still going to vote. Why not gain an audience with them so we can educate them so they vote the way of Air Line Pilots.

That doesn't mean you support Teddy.. it justmeans you addressed the issue.

Have you ever flown with someone you didn't like? Why did you do it?

That's a good point Rez, although incomplete. It's one thing to address the politicians, but it's another thing to address the management and their abuse of employees. This is where ALPA National needs to spend our dues money and decry the management practices in public just like APA is doing. That would serve a two-fold purpose: raise the public awareness of what's going on, and fire up the pilot groups to do what you're preaching, which is to act and get involved. You do that by showing action.

Instead, we're choosing to be pragmatic which is the last thing in the world that will motivate your average line pilot who lost his pay, pension and work rules to do what you're suggesting.
