EAA Oshkosh for more expensive purchases (headsets, trancievers, ect). Local FBO for smaller purchases (charts, information manuals, ect). Cheapest online source for larger purchases that need to be bought ASAP.
Ditto what Jedi said. EAA is an awesome place to pick up big stuff, but as far as the smaller things like charts and even information manuals, the FBO is the way to go.
I've had some good luck with a few online places. Mainly marvgolden.com. But EAA still has them beat.
I've purchased stuff from all the sources you list, and one that would be under the catagory of "other".
In the late 90's, I bought direct from the manufaturer, Bose. Got a set of ANR headset from Bose via telephone. No, they were not cheap, but really worked well. I never saw any of that model headset in any FBO or Sporty's, and I came to the conclusion that they only sell direct to consumer. Maybe that's changed by now.
Why buy anything when you can be a turd and sneak around the crew room late at night and apply a "five fingered discount", like some a$$hole just did with my hat.
Most don't like hats anyway. There was a thread about hats about a year ago. Maybe you had a post on that topic that P.O.'d someone so much they swiped yours
