When the hangar was cool

Do you remember when this forum used to be cool? Back then a pilot could get some good information and ask any question – even ”stupid” ones without being ridiculed?? When the b!tchy, whiney, complaining a-holes were in the minority? Now I come visit and get p!ssed off almost immediately. Perhaps the moderators need to put up a whiney complainer forum. It certainly would generate a lot of traffic. You can start by complaining about this thread!!

Most of the forum riff raff is ego and the "I know more than you"/ holier-than-thou attitude..... but hey most pilots are like that.

Referencing the movie "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" and the book "Winning Low Limit Hold 'em," I get the impression that most message boards deteriorate this way.
Oh well.

I've been on/off this board since college. I can assure you it has been the same level of BS through the years (anybody remember f-charter). In the last few years with all the hardships of this industry there has been some uptick in the BS, but that is probably to be expected. Otherwise take this board for what it is: rumorville and shooting the sh!t. If you take this site seriously you need to work on your social skills.

Pilots are pretty much all type-A personalities, so you can expect the attitude when you come to a forum filled with pilots. Sorry, just the way it is.

P.S. There's still a lot of good information to be had here. Just because a lot of us use the forum to vent our frustrations doesn't mean that there isn't also good information sharing going on.

Doesn't it pretty much stay in the non-aviation forum for the most part?

That forum IS the whiney btchy part of the Hangar I thought.

I have to disagree with the first post, I think the hangar is a ver informative place. You can also vent your frustations and catch up with all the good and bad rumors.
I think the wors was about a year ago, everybody was very bitter about the industry (of course, nobody was hiring), but things have improved in the industry and here.
We have a few tools like TRAINING and RHOID, but those come and go. If you take them seriously you are just doing what they want you to do, they are nothing but flaim bait.

Agreed. Just imagine how boring it would be if we didn't poke a little fun at each other.

I would love to see Archer and Citationkid again.. :D

I have a degree from Riddle and yes, it was our fault.

I think F-Charter is now Ty Webb and is the king of AirTran.

Remember when propilot.com was cool? That was.... 1997 or so and we sure killed that one!

I though everything here happened because of the Mesa contract!

Really? I thought it was all CHQ's fault

Man, what parallel universe are you from? Does Spock have beard there?

I've been hanging around here since at least 1999, and it has been the same. The tools aren't nearly as funny, though. None of the trolls today can match wits with JimboRealGoodPilot.

Of course, some things do change...there is no longer a UAL pool list, and UAL78 no longer posts (although he has plenty of worthwhile advice).

I couldn't disagree more... most of the PROFESSIONAL pilots I work with are some of the most laid back people I've ever met. Oh yeah, and I don't consider myself 'Type-A' either. Are you sure you know what that means?

In any case, I think most of the explosions are tongue in cheek. At least they are with me. PM's are the best way to get a serious answer with me.

Despite the angst and such, most of us are really have-a-beer with you types, even when we are taking shots.

Do you know what it means? Type-A personalities are very driven and competitive. They are usually very opinionated and out-spoken. That's just a couple of characteristics of Type-As, but you get the idea. If you think that most pilots don't fall into this catagory, then I don't know what pilots you've been hanging out with.

I don't think I agree on the whole. We may be type A people in terms of doing our work, but between people we are generally quite laid back.

Maybe she meant TAIPEI PERSONALITY?

Board is still the same just with more posters and maybe a few more kids(<22 years old). I see someone post something and realize I don't recognize their screen name despite 300 posts. There will be a lot less bitching if the near future if the economy and industry just pick up a little bit.

Basic post from 4-5 years ago was "I've got 3500TT, 800 PIC Turbine and just got offers from UAL, SWA, and Delta. I have no interest in SWA but went for the interview anyway. Should I go UAL or Delta?"

And NuGuy is right. Jimbo was a laugh riot in every single post.
