I understand that the possibly shut down of US air is bad for everyone that works there, but was there this much termoil when Eastern airlines when under?

I don't see how the shutting down of the airlines (other than flood of unemployment which is very very bad) would effect the overall structure of current airline operations. Wouldn't some other company absorb those routes and gates at those a/p? Wouldn't it be more of a help (from US AIR shutting down) than a detriment to the industry?

I don't recall much, (of course I was still a snot nosed little kid that was more intrested in Nintendo that the who was loosing their jobs) of when Eastern shut down.

I was lucky enough to land an informal interview with the chief pilot at ASA in 1990 after Eastern shut down. I had a friend pull some strings and he got me in to see him. At the time I was flying freight 135, pic. I had an ATP, 3000 TT, 500 multi. ASA was hiring for a $13K per year Embraer Banderante (non-pressurized turboprop) FOs.

The CP was really nice. At the end of the chat he said: "Rick, you're a good guy, but this is the stack of resumes I'm looking at for my next class." (pointing to a stack, 7 or 8 inches high on his desk.) "The lowest time guy in here has over 10,000 hours of heavy jet 121 time."

Neeless to say, I have know idea what will happen if/when USAir fails. But there's a little bit of history for you. Hundreds of VERY qualified guys looking for ANY job they can find...
