I got my license 5 AUG 2003 at 17. A few days later I flew with my dad on a cross country. I have been flying with my dad since i was 4 years old, but this was my first flight as a PP and flying left seat with my dad sittin sleeping to the right (im used to him being asleep on the left
). My solo flight consisted of 3 landings and 1 go around. My first time around the pattern by myself, due to traffic that decided to taxi into position with me on short final, had to abort, always fun! But setting up for my first landing as a PP with my dad in the right seat, shootin off things off the checklist as I was going through them, teasing me a little, "don't botch this landing" "show me why I should keep letting you fly this bird". We all have our ways of flying. He is trying to convert me to some of his ways while I'm trying to get this bird on the ground as nicely as possible. I set up for a short field landing at the destination, set up to final a little hot and a little high but there was a nice crosswind so I was doing alright... (dang, im going to botch this first landing). I get it down on the deck, I wanted to be a naval aviator for that landing and Bolt so I decided to crash it right on the numbers, then raise some flaps and cowlflaps and push in the throttle and end up doing a touch and go; well I guess you could say getting down was a bad choice of words, it was a botched landing (on the numbers though) but I decieded to do it again. With all of this going on, there is an Audience of 8-10 guys working and lookin at a blackhawk helo down on the taxiway (the airport about 70 mi east of Nellis). so I take her around and Stuck her right on the numbers and didnt even have to back taxi to the center taxiway(short runway again). So I was feeling good about that last landing, pretty good. But, I'm still kinda embarassed about the whole go around botched landing. So that flight ended up with a graceful taxi to parking with polite gesture wave passed the black hawk guys. Just my luck, it seems I either have to go around or botch a landing my first time through it. They leave good stories to tell, and I'm glad to say I havent had a crap landing like that since. Though, I must have done something right, because I'm still jumping in the left seat of that 182 a few times a week. Moral of the story, That was the only time I was somewhat nervous taking up pax. I keep current on all of my training so I feel fairly comfortable taking them up!
