Go with Gliem, super fast and super easy. Get them to handle your paperwork if you live near a FSDO that sucks to deal with (ie Orlando).

I have to recommend American Flyers. They only charge you one fee and then allow you to renew every year there after for free. And it is the same initial price of all the other competitors. Definitely a steal of a deal. I just used it for the third time last month. (Second free one). For a little extra they will also file the paperwork for you. But if you have time drop by your local fsdo and save the dough.

I'll put in a vote for the Gleim online FIRC as well. It took me about 4 hours total and I actually learned a few things along the way...

American Flyers. Did mine in 3 hours and never have to pay again.
Impossible, they keep track of your time, I use Flyers every time, and there is no way around the clock.

I just sit and click a page or so while watching TV. You might be able to get an hour or so off, but they do a pretty good job of keeping track of your time. But, pay once, good to go. Can't beat it.

This thread reminded me to check when my CFI expires, so I checked......

son of a !@$#@%!!!!

American Flyers

I'll give another vote for AF. One fee, and I've renewed 3 times now.

it's been over a year now for me, but as I recall, there's no way around the clock.

As a 121 Captain, I renew mine through our POI. I go to the FSDO and they take care of it on the spot.

How about if your a 121 captain go to the local FSDO.. get it renewed for free! Takes 10 minutes.

Here is my 1.5 cents

Although I use AF, I have to recommend Gleim. AF course ware is convoluted and difficult to regurgitate the info. I have done some consulting for the Gleim refresher several years ago and it we easy and the new information is not buried in tons of data. AF seems to just regurgitate the FAR's and the AIM's. Gleim's tends to teach you the info.

I use AF because I paid $99 when they first offered the program and have used it for the past 6-8 years. It is a heck of a deal as Gleim and Jeppesen charge each renewal period. As far as time goes, the FAA requires 16 hours of instruction and AF times you for each section. It wont let you take the test until the alloted time is up. You also have to move throughout the pages as well or the time will stop on you. Found that out the hard way.

So, If you are cheap like me, AF. If you want an easier and to the point method, Gleim. Never used Jeppesen.:)
