That's really what it is about, the love of flying and the ability to make the big bucks (100K) and only work 16 days a month. Most angry guys I've talked to and seen on this site don't like to fly and probably don't have any hobbies to do on their off time. This job can be a dream.

Since when is 100K the big bucks? It's people like you that will keep this profession down. Strive a little higher or get out! Years of missing holidays and missing your kids growing up, can you really put a cheap price tag on that? There are pleanty of professions that pay about 100k in the second year with only a degree. (Yeah, I know, Go there myself!) Not for me, I actually enjoy my job, and the people I work with. But I would like to be paid as a professional with respect to my training, skills, responsibilities, time away and the chance of losing my medical. Aim a little higher 'dude', or go do something else.

Several jobs that pay 100k in the second year? Probably if their cost of living warrants it....doctor, lawyer yeah. Most places like that (100K) 2nd year, are in EXPENSIVE housing areas where they have to pay that.
There are several parts of the country that are within 3 hour drive or short flight where you can live like a king on 80K because of the low cost of living...I have spent most of the holidays with my family...for the past 15 years in the industry...guess I am just lucky on bidding.

Don't listen to any moron who claims to be from GoJet! This guy is such a scam-artist...... Instructordude spent many a long night hijacking threads on the regionals board and now he has come over here "born-again."

Just give this monkey time, and he will show you what any absolute freaking jackass he really is!

Yogi,

I do respect your opinion but disagree about plenty of jobs that pay 100K in the second year with only a degree. What kind of degree is that.... a trust fund degree.

As far as being a professional, YOU ARE ONE! You wear a tie and hat like I do and probably like me.... ARE PROUD TO DO IT! 100K is a good amount of money and I agree it could get higher but let's not say that it is chicken feed. Let work to get it higher but not kill the golden goose at the same time!

Yum.....

I still enjoy my job at Delta, but I am fairly senior and still making a pretty good wage. Most people don't start out that way, though. There is always that first year pay, and reserve that can cloud the dream. It takes a while to get comfortable with the pay and schedule, maybe a few years. 9-11 really did smack the "airline pilot lifestyle" with several BKs that affected average pay, and the introduction of RJs have shrunk many mainline fleets. Age 65 will stagnate many airline seniority lists, which will slow hiring. Once you are on with an airline, save money and invest in 401Ks and DC programs. Pensions at most airlines are gone or could be gone in the next dip. Overall, it is a good job if you can withstand the first couple years of lower pay and worse QOL. If you can get past that, then you can be comfortable, but never really totally secure. Just don't be a big spender and enjoy loved ones. An airline with a little variety (maybe a domestic and INTL operation) may keep you more interested in the flying part over time. Good luck.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Plus, the General can live on a 100% Kool-Aid diet......

My, my, my, that stuff really must make one's head swell.... Got quite a bit more proud of oneself since we flew the lowly EM2, eh General? I just don't know how that head could possibly get thru the cockpit door anymore.

Keep in mind... The regionals got your cocky butt where it is-maybe you should consider that when hijacking every thread possible to toot your own horn!

Jackass!

JMonkey,

I have to ask you about the regional board thing? You can look at my other posts but I have few posts on the regional board? "Born Again" Explain here or by a PM. Scam artist....?

This job is about 3 things: chics, money and time off.

Anyone that tells you that they do it for "their love of flying" hasn't really done any (real flying) and probably lists a Cessna in their profile.

Oh, did I mention it's just a job? Remember that, and you will never worry about 99% of the crap on this board.

Maybe....

Maybe you have a some sort of long-term memory issue. That would not surprise me as silly of a 'tard as you seem to be.

Perhaps you should post something on the regional board to see if anyone else remembers you. Interesting how some of the guys over there even use quotes from you in their signatures.

If you somehow fail to recall, you spent most of your time there bashing others who did not buy into your "screw everyone else in the industry" Go-Jet mentality-perhaps you and Skynation are still buds-maybe you can go over and get him to refresh you memory.

-Never spent much time on the regionals board?
-Very rich!

JMoney,

You still haven't answered the question. What posts? You are confused with someone else.

What is up with the avatar? Get a life dude.

BC,

Too true my brother in blue. Where did you fly F-14's at. Capt I'm flying with next weekend was a Tomcat dude.

If memory serves, the General has been able to hold Captain for a while, but he's waiting for an airplane that he wants to fly.

I have been able to hold the MD88 left seat for awhile, but I have never flown it and do not wish to. I did fly the 738 years ago after we got them, and liked it. In the meantime, I am getting some INTL experience on the 767ER, which is fun, and waiting for the 738 in ATL, which should be Summer or so when we get new 737-700s in the mix also. I have a 9 month hold on the 7ER currently, which could mean perfect timing.

Jackass!

Hey, I call it like I see it, and I did fly for the "commuters", unlike your sorry arse. Oh yeah, you fly for ASA, get back to your cushy Valdosta turn. Enjoy that!

Let's hope you never need to utilize my jumpseat to get down to VLD, you jackoff!

I know more than you may think. I know that you also post here as 737 pylt. A little birdie may have actually told me your real name.... I am very good with names, especially names of those who piss me off...

Just chew on that when you have to wait for the next "little guy" to get you where you need to go. Or maybe that next "little guy" might just be one of my buds. The airport is a great place for a good night's rest.....

-Small world-you just never know how small until you find out the hard way..... Long walk to VLD, champ.

I never will, really. I highly doubt I will ever have to go to Valdosta, but if you say I will.......And, you won't need mine since you mainly do intra-Georgia flights anyway. Enjoy that.

I truly hope you don't screw around with the jumpseat due to a personal grudge... your commuting pals won't be real happy with you.

Screw Around....

I truly hope you don't screw around with the jumpseat due to a personal grudge... your commuting pals won't be real happy with you.

There are only about 5 people on my jumpseat list. The general is the only one from DAL. Besides, it is my resposibility to exclude anyone who is clearly this mentally unstable in the interest of safety of flight.

P.S.-The only surprise in finding out that you are also 737pylt, General is the shock of seeing that you have made that many more posts spouting exactly the same pompus garbage. You really need perspective!

Wow, you got me....NOT. Go ahead and keep thinking that. And no, I won't need your jumpseat to Flint.

If you are a commuter you can remain in a state of perpetual adolescence via "the crash pad".

You get to sneak away from nagging girlfriends, wives, kids, etc. and sit in a cheap apartment with dumpster furniture drinking beer in your shorts and watching TV with the Guys all day.

Just like College....only you actually have a J.O.B.

When the Ball and Chain stares at you and says "what have you done for the past week?" the best part is:

A) She has NO idea and NO proof of what you were really doing . Whatever you say is Gospel.

and

B) You get to say " I've been working." and you aren't even lying.

YKW

Just as a cautionary tale.. if you want to keep that lifestyle up, don't marry, or otherwise seriously bang, a flight attendant... they are like the borg.. once you get into their system, they all know all about you, every one... you will be assymilated! :)
