What's a good magnetic compass?

I remember a law suit a while back. Where a dude in his big honking RV sets cruise control and goes back to make himself a cup of coffee.

Needless to say a wreck happens, and the RV is totaled.

So he sues the RV company for saying it wasn't in the manual that you couldn't do that. He won, got himself a new RV, and a load of cash. Everyone got a manual with a stupid warning on it.

You're going to need an all aluminum car in order for this to work correctly. I recommend an Audi A8, and make sure you get the plate on the back to say 777-DRVR. Also, you're going to need the hold computer from Sporty's...there is no way you can live without it.

I just read in FLYING magazine that sporty's now has handsome window decals for your cat that indicate your position in aviation.

They read something like "FAA Certified Airline Transport Pilot"
or mechanic or commercial pilot or inspector.

Do they have 'em for dogs, too? I mean, it seems like more pilots are dog people than cat people. At least that's the impression I've gotten. On the other hand, perhaps they've done those focus group marketing studies and determined that only the cat-lovers would buy the window decals. Who knows...

Hahaha...you know those stickers the obnoxious people put on their pickup truck rear windows with the kid taking a leak on a chevy or a ford...they'd make millions if they had that same kid in the sticker taking a leak on various regionals. That way the Mesaba kid would be taking a leak on the Comair plane...etc etc etc...

You just want the circular compasas up there on the dash bouncin' back and forth so you can look at it and imagine which way to turn to get to a new heading and get familiar with the way it swings when turning. It would be a good idea for training.

Wait, you need help using the compass? The compass is the most basic piece of equipment in the aircraft. The only thing about reading the compass is that you should just estimate where it is, you won't ever get closer than 5 degrees anyway. Not to mention that the small aircraft you will fly almost never have updated compass correction cards...

If you need to remember how it swings, try ANDS and UNOS: Accelerate North Decelerate South and Undershoot North Overshoot South

The DG/ADF is there to tell you which way to turn if you get a heading.

my truck came with an attitude indicator, standard equipment. Actually gives pitch and bank angle. I always get a laugh when another pilot gets in my car.

I wanted to use this in my car because #1 I don't have a compass in my car and needed to get one anyhow, and #2 I think it will definately help me with quickly reading the compass and learning.

We're not the ones that don't know how to read a compass.

Come on squale... you gotta admit that your original question doesn't come from the normal, everyday, run of the mill person.

Hey I only ask the questions here because I know there are many knowledgable people here that have TONS of experience. I am not trying to belittle people at all, which is what seems to be happening.. and if that is the case, it was never meant to be like this..

simpily just asking some questions... I am new to this.. so was looking for some guidance...

everybody has a passion and a high level of knowledge for some subject matter in life. Well curently for me that may be computers, there are many computer and/or programming questions that one may ask, but the LAST thing I would do is get on the person's case about asking a question. We are all here to help one another, that's how I think of it. And yes, I do participate in other forums where I am nothing more than really a "answerer" to other people's questions because it's a forum deticated to something I know very well..

when it comes to aviation, well it's obvious I am new, and yes that's why some questions may seem dumb to you, but to me they aren't. It's funny how much you learn in life by simpily just teaching others. You ever try to review for a test or something by actually teaching what you have learned to somebody else that has no clue about it. You should try it, it works very well, and I guarantee that it will stick much better in your mind once you teach it..

Ok, so to get this straight, you come here, ask 16 questions, which are completely legitimate. Some poeple give you feedback, some people give you he!!. Then you go and post things along the lines of:
