Ok, the situation is, I have been offered a job at Compass to go directly into the left seat as a check airman on the EMB 175. I have also been offered a job by a certain major airline as well. So, which one would you choose?

I would say major..but it depends on so many things that are important to YOU. Are you going to have to commute, career advancment, pay, quality of life, pass benefits, etc etc etc....There are tons of things but you know the answer pick the one you feel is right for you.

Also think about your age and how long you will be able to continue with an airline career. If you don't have all that much time left you should probably do the Compass thing since you are starting at the top of the payscale and don't have to wait however many years to become captain at whatever major you are thinking about. I know a few regional lifers who just started too late to ever do the major thing. They didn't even try because they ran the numbers and realized they would do better staying where they were at. If you have a long time left then the major will probably end up being more attractive, but there are lots of considerations to take into account like the post above mentioned. Good luck wherever you end up.

What would Jesus do?

Well, I am assuming that by you not mentioning what major hired you it could only be Delta. B/c if Jet blue/Southwest/Fed Ex or UPS hired you, you wouldn't be asking us anything. But like someone else pretty much already said, where do you want to live? commuting gets old, secondly do you plan to stay at that perticular major? B/c if you dont then and then lack the PIC jet, then I would go Compass and get the PIC jet. Delta is a Legacy and what not, but I am just not sure if I would apply there just yet.

If you get on with a Major at the beginning of a hiring wave, you are more protected from furlough than if you were hired at the end of a wave. Will the hiring stop if Age 65 is enacted? If you could be in the beginning of a wave and won't be smacked if age 65 is enacted, go with the Major. Your kids will thank you for it, since you will probably be able to send them to a real college instead of a community college, and your wife will love you for the large house and 2 new cars you bought her and yourself. Seriously, if you stick around at the minors you will never be able to really jump up to that next tax bracket. Also, flying the E175 to Des Moines and Fargo might be fun for awhile, but Singapore or Frankfurt may be more appealing later in life. And, if it is Delta, we may be getting E190s or the sort in the next year or so, and it will be junior, so you could see the left seat in a couple years. Back in 96 when I got on, we had 1 year upgrades on the 737-200 at Delta Express in MCO. It will happen again probably.

I hope nobody is married to a woman like that.

*General Lee, this is not a bash on Delta, or you or anything else you consider right...

Just a comment on the McMansion mentality.

I know I would definitely turn to anonymous internet users for help.

It's nice to see like-minded people out there.
