just trying to get a picture of the marketplace, especially the regionals, for pilots. the decision that faces many of you, well most of you, is highly regretable. reason I ask is to try and get some foresight for myself.
I am 32 now, probably won't get a regional job until I'm 33. Thinking conservatively and without the aid of a crystal ball, I don't imagine I'll have a shot at a major until I'm at or near 40 years old.
Let's say that I'm then 40, get hired, and spend a couple of years flying for (ABC Airlines, whoever) before furloughs happen again. So there I'd be with wife, kids, etc. in my early to mid forties with no job and maybe years before call back. By then I'd be looking down the barrel of crap seniority for my final 15 or so years.
any insight on this is appreciated. It's all just for discussion, but thoughts like this make me think that, at my age, I should try to land at a good regional where I'll retire with a good schedule, good pay, etc.
thanks!
