just trying to get a picture of the marketplace, especially the regionals, for pilots. the decision that faces many of you, well most of you, is highly regretable. reason I ask is to try and get some foresight for myself.

I am 32 now, probably won't get a regional job until I'm 33. Thinking conservatively and without the aid of a crystal ball, I don't imagine I'll have a shot at a major until I'm at or near 40 years old.

Let's say that I'm then 40, get hired, and spend a couple of years flying for (ABC Airlines, whoever) before furloughs happen again. So there I'd be with wife, kids, etc. in my early to mid forties with no job and maybe years before call back. By then I'd be looking down the barrel of crap seniority for my final 15 or so years.

any insight on this is appreciated. It's all just for discussion, but thoughts like this make me think that, at my age, I should try to land at a good regional where I'll retire with a good schedule, good pay, etc.

thanks!

Other....

I think I'll perform unspeakable acts in Macy's window during rush hour.

That way I can get some self-respect back....

Either that, or male-crack whore.

It is clear of what you think of the industry and I don't think you are wrong; however, you are relying on the NOW and not the future. Obviously, you have an inner drive, and desire to achieve, so use some of that energy and make happen what you can without focusing on the negative. Most fortunes in good times are created from decisions made when times are (perceived) bad.

Think about a good part-time job to get a second income. I'm only 21 (22 in a bit) and starting to plan now for furloughs, companies dying, etc... it is just a fact of the industry.

I do online network marketing on the side. We diversify our portfolios, why not diversify our income? :) I'll do other things if they come up.

Smart thinking!

I don't mean to sound negative. I have actually been surprised at how optimistic I still am, and it only reinforces to me that I'm doing what I want and that things will work out. I'm just reassessing my situation, and more and more I'm thinking I could get very comfortable at a good regional and make it my last stop. Just curious what others are doing, and also wondering how many former major guys I will run into at the regional level.

Go Reserve!

Defend freedom AND earn a paycheck! You'll continue to grow as an aviator while you serve your country. I know it is not for everyone, but we need pilots and there seem to be a lot of pilots who need jobs.

Geesh, and all I was thinking of doing was to perfect the art of playing with myself! Guess I need to set higher goals for myself...
