hi
What type of medical do i need for 121 PIC line check with the FAA?

thanks

For Pt 121 PIC, you must maintain a Class I. The FAA will always look at you Med Cert and Pilot Cert and will record the Cert # and associated dates.

If this is your "Fed Ride" at the end of your training, I would be sure my medical is up to date and not take any chances.

Technically, you should have had a 1st class Medical for your type ride as well.

At PCL we had a rash of checkride failures for people showing up without valid 1st class medicals. It's a bust item - gotta have the medical that is required for your operation type (1st class for PIC 121, period).

Don't show up with a 1st class lapsed to a 2nd.

You busted people on a checkride for not having a First Class Medical?

How can that be a bust?

Every carrier I know or have flown with requires you show up for a checkride with a valid licence, medical and a flight kit with all the items that are specified in the ops manual, with all the manual revisions up to date. If it is required, why not show up with proper items?

Show me where you have to have a first class medical for a type ride in the sim, And by the way I know the answer to this question. You do have to have a first class with first class privledges for the line check and to operate the A/C part 121 pic, but as far as any TRAINING goes it can be a third class.

Actually, you can get a type rating and a FAR 121 Pilot in command PC with NO MEDICAL AT ALL. Simulator instructors get this all the time.

They do. They kick your a*s right out the door.

I didn't make the rules, I just report their enforcement, and the last 4 carriers I've worked for, including this one, REQUIRE you to show up to the checkride ready for a flight in that position, including all manuals up to date, AND a valid license and appropriate medical.

That's why it's the very first thing they check before you even start your oral...

With this type of an attitude I am surprised you have ever passed a checkride. The check airmen does not make the rules, he will give you a down, simple as that. You're the one that has to see the chief pilot and explain. And still take the checkride later. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.

You are not only obtaining a type on the A/C when you train part 121, you are also obtaining the type to fly under the "PART." If your certificate, medical, CFM, FOM, Jepps are out of currency, you won't even get to the sim, because the first thing on the forms that are used is to check for these Items.
Before Line checks as well, If any of the above mentioned required documents to operate under the part are out of currency, you will be returning to base in the back and the Check will operate the flight.

The only thing you are forgetting is that the FAA doesn't differentiate between the Sim and the A/C, To them, you might as well be doing T&G's with paying costumers in the back. There is no such a thing as this is "only" training. All rules to fly under the part apply, for crew members. Sim instructors is another deal, because they are NOT going to be line certified. there is a big difference.

Another little detail. Company SOP's also apply when they are more restrictive than the FAA. So If your company has a 12 hour policy between Bottle and throttle, don't stay up with your buds having a Bud up to 8 prior because it is just the "Sim" you will be fired just like if you showed up to the gate.
