Greetings all. Finally good news to report. I was recently offered a job at Express Jet (I accepted it of course). What a great bunch of people. Everyone I talked to was very positive about the future. Quite refreshing actually.

The presentation they gave at the beginning or the interview process was very informitive, however they really didn't give much information on what to expect in ground school. Would someone from XJT please elaborate on the ground school exerience for me? Things like where they put you up at(yes they mentioned the roomate), possible schedule, do you have jumpseat privilages? finding out where you will be based? How is senority established? Anything else that might be good to know.

Thank you in advance. I'm very happy about the opportuniy to join such a great team.

From what I hear, the training department at XJT is fantastic. There is however a spelling test on day 1.

It's been awhile but here's a stab of what to expect...

A week or so of basic indoc. That's where they talk about some FARs and company policies...boring and easy.

Then you have ground school mixed with FTDs. Not sure how long the curriculum is now. After your oral and final FTD you go to simulator. Not sure how many session you get. After you pass your PC, you're on payroll and wait to do IOE.

Soon you should get a phonebook size folder with flows and limitations/memory items and a tenative schedule. Try to have a jist of the flows and try to know the limitations/memory items by the first day. Makes class easier going in knowing something.

No j/s privys until you pass your PC. Bid on your base in the beginning of groundschool. I think newhires are put up in a Holiday Inn with a roommate. During training you will get one large perdiem check and have to strech that.

Do a search and I'm sure you can find better answers.

You can tell that Nervona did not go to college. What's this profession coming to when high school only graduates can get a job at an airline flying jets?

Thanks Forever FO

I appreciate the info just wondering which holiday inn and whats to do for meals and for those few and far between study breaks. Places to work out or just to chill.

As for you ready2fly, negitivity and anger will get you absolutily nowhere in aviation. While you are still in a 'learning mode' I suggest you develop some skills in that area. While I agree my spelling maybe a bit off, my attitude is appropiate for the job that I was hired into. My attitude is what got me hired not my spelling abilities.

I am actually considering applying there as well. Does anyone know if Pay begins on day one during training, or do you have to pass the PC before pay begins?

Pay

In the presentation they said 75 hour gaurentee after the checkride. The lady said that your are not an employee of expressjet until you pass your checkride. They do however pay per diem in one check of approximately $1400ish ($38.00 per day) in lieu of traing pay.

Starting was approximately in the $ 22.00 range, second year pay was $ 33 (i think, I know it was in the thirties) as wekll a a slight increase in year 3, The HR lady said most upgrades happen in the third year right now, but if what they have planned to happen happens (I have no idea what that is, she didn't elaborate).

They interviewed two group of 30 that day one in the afternoon and one in the morning. The gouge is RIGHT ON THE MONEY an www.aviationinterviews.com the lady even asked me if I had read the gouge. I suggest you answer this truthfully.

Overall it was a great experience. Everyone I met at express jet are happly to be there. It reminded me of the good ole days in the yesteryear of Mesaba.

PM Me for more details

It's the Holiday Inn Intercontinental Airport on JFK Blvd. There isn't much around there within walking distance. The hotel has Good Eats restaurant. It's ok (in moderation). They used to give a free buffet breakfast in the morning, but stopped doing that. There's a Subway and a Godfathers Pizza down the street. Monday through Friday, 5-7 pm, the Sheraton has Happy Hour which has good drink specials and free food. The Doubletree (formerly the Hyatt) used to have $1.50 drafts during Happy Hour (5-7 pm), but I'm not sure if they still do.

Welcome aboard and best of luck in training.

I start class on Monday.... They don't give us the limitations anymore. We just get the flows and profiles plus a big cockpit poster to go over the flows.. I'm guessing we get the CFM on the first day so we can start on the limitations and such.

Hey thanks for that quick response. I guess I'll have to pass on XJet. The 2 big things I look for in training are single occupancy and pay and health benifits that start day 1. I was debating over XJet because it would be a fairly easy commute to Cleveland. I guess now it's between Air Wisconsin and Champion.
Thanks again for the info.

Nervona,

If you want to maximize your food dollar, ask the front desk for a mini-fridge when you check in. The hotel will run you down to Wal-mart and you can stock up on groceries. I ate in every night, brought my lunch every day, and still had plenty of money for beer. BTW, beer is your friend. Have lots of it on hand and you'll be amazed at how your room becomes study-central!

Dah, Toga parties and beer drinking contests, like all ground schools. Did they tell you about the ritual hazing (don't ask)?

Also check out Hoot County Saloon, one location is in the same plaza on JFK as the Subway and Godfathers. Probably the best place to grab a brew within walking distance of the hotel. Watch your beer though when the bar dancing begins....never seen any supermodels there, but hey, what ya gonna do.

I wouldn't trust this guy, he showed me the training packet of what he was "studying", there were a lot pages stuck together, and the poster had holes in it?!

This is coming from a guy who has the hots for his boss.. The only problem is she has more facial hair than he does..

I'm starting over at XJET on monday also. I was reading through the training packet and it says in there to memorise the limitations; however, they are nowhere to be found in the folder they gave us.
I talked to a friend there today and he said they will give us the manuals on day one.

The instructions you are given are simple enough, but I had the same question and don't look down on you for asking (and I finished very recently, so my info should be accurate):

Memorize:
Limitations (easy, takes 2 nights with only a few that remain tricky)
CA Flows
FO Flows (yeah, seriously you NEED to know the flows and every little switch you will be turning for BOTH positions)
Emergency Procedures / memory items from the back of the limitations (Verbatim, not paraphrased)
FLC profile & Alternate climb profile
Flaps min and max speeds

That will get you started, but very quickly you will need all the takeoff and landing profiles complete with company callouts. Basically, memorize appendix C, but hopefully the items above will help you prioritize your efforts. Good luck..... PM me if you need answers to anything.

We need every one of you guys to pass training.... to help me get a line one day!
