I'll be vacationing in Auckland in mid June and have read some tourist books but was wondering if someone on here knew of some cool stuff the guide books might not have mentioned. Or just stuff that is really cool and not to miss. Just figured some of you might know. tHANKS:)

Just remember that underneath the normally laid-back Kiwi exterior lurks a vicious streak of jealousy if they think you're looking at one of their sheep the wrong way.

the fly fishing is AWESOME in New Zeland...PM me and i'll get you intouch with a fella that runs a guide outfit down there...

NZ is great, you'll love it. Lots to see on both North and South Islands. The guidebooks probably cover most of the standard stuff, some good. "Lonely Planet" series is about the best for low-budget stuff.
Near Auckland, out on the Coromandel Peninsula, and north around Bay of Islands is spectacular. Rotorua is cool, too, but can be touristy.
Kiwi pubs have great beer on tap, and, check out the bath houses (if you're travelling single), they're probably not listed in the Michelin guide.
Have a good trip, I'm jealous! Cheers, mate!
