I just wanted to get an idea of what most companies longterm disability plans are like. The way I read my current plan it looks like after 24 months it stops if I can do any job not just flying. IE greeter at WalMart.

your company should offer an aditional 12 months for a few bucks a month. real airlines like SWA offer 60% of you current position based on mimimum guarantee) until you reach 60. maybe your company has that option if you pay for it . check with the Human Remains department .

If you're at the same company I am (shiny blue/white A-320s/E-190s) you are 100% correct. Beside the self-subsidized Short-term Dis, I am not aware of any company-sponsored programs (besides AD&D and Loss of Lic - both rather small amounts at my age) to supplement the 2-year deal (60% of line average supposedly tax-free).

And they have the audacity to call it "Long-Term Disability".

After six months disability, 67% until retirement age.

Be careful with the fine print on these plans..

Typical lawyer-ese..

What is the definition of "disability"...

Preventing you from having a Class I ... ?
Or not...

It will be difficult to size up the different plans if we don't have access to the actual language of the plan.

good luck getting the REAL details.

the insurance must be log term dissability based on loss of license/medical, wich means if you loose your ability to obatain a first class for captain or second for sic, you get 60%(or 67 or whatever).also, you can suplement up to 80% of your income, so if your plan offers 60%, you could work for the other 20% on another field. any more and they diminish your benefits accordingly. get a copy of your plan, if is loss of license you are ok, if is straight dissability take it to a lawywer to see if is worth anyhting.

We have 25% of your current monthly income for 4 1/2 years. This is like a LOL insurance plan. After being vested (5 years) you get 27 1/2% of your monthly income plus 1% for every year of service with a max of 50%. So a guy flying for 14 years would get 41.5% of his salary plus the 25% for 4 1/2 years. So if you've been employed for 22 years you'll get 75% of your salary for the first 4 1/2. After that 50% until death.
We are the Interisland carrier with B737's.
