Where ever you end up staying, absolutely make sure the hotel/room has air conditioning.

Stayed at the Hotel Danieli, right off St. Marks Square, one of the nicest hotels and locations in Venice. However didn't sleep a wink thanks to high temperature and humidity, with no air conditioner in sight.
