ALPA President Capt. John Prater attended winter meetings of the AFL-CIO last week and had the opportunity to have personal and group meetings with U.S. Vice President Biden, the secretary of transportation, secretary of labor, and chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. At each of those meetings with the leaders of President Obama’s administration, Prater had the opportunity to discuss the concerns and need of ALPA pilots.

ALPA is the only pilot union invited to participate and given access to these important policy makers, and the Association is backed by its affiliation with more than 10.5 million union workers.

The week began with the Executive Committee meeting of the Transportation Trades Department; Prater is a member of the TTD Executive Council.
Ed Wytkind, TTD president, opened the meeting with a report on the progress of labor-friendly appointments to key positions in the Obama administration. In summary, he said that the vetting process was proceeding on several nominees whom ALPA supports, and several are poised to head key transportation positions.

Good, but wish he went there with the best interest of every pilot in mind. Maybe he suggested another bump in the retirement age.

Hope so. That'll keep you young whippersnappers in your place.
