Well through their efforts, we as crew no longer are forced to go through the xray or the "advanced" pat downs.
Thats awesome, the flight crew only has to go through the metal detector, meanwhile every ramper, cleaner, fueler and gate agent swipes a SIDA badge and gets to the aircraft.

The TSA is only concerned with what happens inside the terminal. Outside where the aircraft are doesn't exist in their purview.

I have been told that the SIDA badge is the safety mechanism because only 'trusted' employees get them.

Just awesome- it truly is 'Security Theater'

Tell that to the mechanic that fixed the pitot tubes and other probes that the TSA clowns used as a jungle gym on that RJ in ORD.

Truly!

I think much of the up roar over the "opt out day" was because many of the airports did not put people through it. I know TPA and ABE actually advertised such.

I had a relative fly twice last week and was not hassled felt up or nuked.
Just an id and the usual.

Of course I believe that was the plan on opt out day. Knowing full well the "media" would puke all over themselves parroting the gubment line about how no body cares about the 4th amendment, as long as it saves "just 1 person". Immediately followed by the one liner from a brain dead idiot claiming "I'm all for it".

If any one would bother picking up a history book you would learn that this is how those in power have manipulated the populace since, well, always.

I am not a big fan of the new scanners but based on the homemade explosives the Sherriff and FBI found in the house of an Escondido CA guy two weeks ago. The explosives were homemade in the guy’s garage and house and are the same type as used by suicide (vests) bombers all over the world. Could you imagine some homegrown terrorist just walking through the normal magnetic scanner and getting on a plane and detonating the device?
Do we need to have an incident to make then new scanners an invaluable tool?

I could imagine him getting hired as a wheel chair pusher or cabin cleaner thus obtaining a SIDA card. No metal detectors or security at all for him. Do we need to have an incident to make scanning all workers an invaluable tool?

Every time I've gone through security in the past month, I've had an option of what line to use. I've just chosen the non-porno scanner line and gone merrily on my way.
