Yea I heard you have to provide your own T.P to use the lav.

To be totally honest, I hope that working there is 'worse than anyone has ever expected' as the morons who when to work there, deserve it!!

Unfortunately, as a 'profession' we are only as good as our 'dumbest members.'

If 'scumbus' couldn't have gotten a single pilot to go to work for them, with what they were 'offering' would this thread even exist???????

And, anyone who went to work there, knowing the pay, working conditions and the 'concept' of the airline, is simply beyond 'Stupid.'

And, I'm trying to keep it 'clean and polite' to keep from being 'banned for life' on here, could go on, but pretty much sums it up. In most cases, You get what you deserve, and ask for.

Just my $0.02, for what's its worth.

They are trying to copy success (Ryan Air), but are doing it poorly. They will have to make significant changes if they want to last more than 3-5 years.
 
Just wait until the real Ryan Air gets here. Things are only going to get harder. First, it will happen to the domestic market, then the international market.

But hey, Joe Shmoe will be able to fly from London to New York for a hundred bucks.

Globalization is unstoppable at this point.

You are off base. Skybus and others will show that using out of the way airports will not have the appeal here as it does in Europe. Ryanair may have some cash, but they don't have slots here in the states at airports that people actually want to go to. That is their whole deal, and it won't catch on here. Skybus just started service to Bellingham, WA, and I don't think it will go gangbusters. The new "Western Airlines" (via Casino Express Airlines) started service from Bellingham to a few cities and was shut down within one month. Allegiant flies to small cities like Bellingham, but only to proven cities that everyone wants to go to (LAS, SFB, PIE) and not daily. People think it is great when you can buy a ticket for $30, but then you have to drive 50 miles to get to where you originally wanted to be. In Europe there are more trains and other forms of transportation that are cheaper to connect to. Not here in the States. And, Ryanair was just slammed in the EU courts and now are not allowed to take over Aer Lingus, which could have given them an upper hand in trying to start transatlantic service. You won't see Aeroflot or any other "global" airline flying between LA and Moline.

Second time in a month I walk by the Skybus counter wedged at the end of the check-in counters at BUR. Nobody to be seen there at departure minus 30 minutes. Nobody at the gate. Jet sitting there...

I think you actually have to fly those things to make money...
 
Naw, they're making money. The agents and passengers were all at the timeshare sales pitch that's now required before you're allowed to board your flight. :D

Maybe not Moline, but LA to NYC and many many others is only a matter of time. First will be Canadian and Mexican, then European to be immediately followed by Eastern European. It may actually be beneficial to us in the very short term, but anything more than 10 years out will be devistating after it happens. We can't compete with Mexican and Chinese slave labor costs, or subsidized European airlines. Ironically it will start with international routes, the so called safe haven right now.
 
How does Skybus pay their pilots for Deadheading?

Since they are flying east coast to west coast without overnights, Im guessing deadhead pay is significant to having a good QOL/W2.

I think flight attendant makes $9....its sooo sadthey have a lot of problems coming...just wait and see...Bad people here.

Personally, I like the pay scales for the employees. I think they are a more realistic level for airline employees to be paid.

Just an intersting tid-bit.. I priced a flight from LA (AREA) to CMH on a random date in August

Skudbus was 365 bucks round trip (priority boarding and 2 bags included) to burbank.

Continental (Through Orbitz) was 285 round trip through IAH and into SNA.

So this dirt cheap fare bs is just that, and when you consider that you have to pay for EVERYTHING on board and get minimal if any customer service. Skybus isnt going to last that long.

Skybus' economics are going to work against them. People probably would be willing to fly for 10-50 bucks and get nickle and dimed with no customer service. But they will not fly Skybus if they have to charge what everybody else does to make their bottom line work. I

So some one pays 350 bucks round trip and then they have to pay to check a bag and pay for a coke on the airplane... I think not they may as well fly any major network carrier.

The Skybus Rules of Flying

(A.K.A. How we keep our tickets so darn cheap.)

1. Don’t pay for everyone else’s baggage.

On Skybus, you pay only for what you check. The first two bags are 5 bucks apiece. After that, it’s $50 a bag (yeah, so pack smartly). Less baggage means faster turnaround and cheaper tickets. Fair deal?
2. Hungry? Thirsty? Bring cash.

Most people love our full cocktail bar and food menu, but if you’re not into that, it won’t cost you a penny. Why should your ticket cost include your neighbor’s dinner? That also goes for blankets and pillows–which, by the way, you get to keep if you buy. Oh, and don’t sneak food onboard unless you brought enough for the whole plane.
3. Bring a book.

We’re not big fans of fancy in-flight entertainment systems. So grab that best seller at the airport, or buy a Sudoku puzzle onboard if you’re feeling brainy. You’ll touch down before you know it.
4. Don’t call us.

We don’t have a phone number. Seriously. We’d love to chat, but those phone banks are expensive. And a good website like www.skybus.com is even more convenient.
5. Don't be late. We won't wait.

Please arrive no later than 30 minutes before takeoff, or we’ll leave without you. Really. By that time, there won’t even be anyone to check your bag. It’s nothing against you–we just have to keep our flights on time, or things get expensive in a hurry.
6. Don’t expect an army of gate agents.

You probably won’t see any agents at the gate until boarding time. Remain calm! Just print your boarding pass at www.skybus.com and relish in the savings.
7. Yeah, we’ve got preferred seats. Sort of.

There are no fancy reclining beds onboard, but you can pay 10 bucks extra to board our brand-new A319 airplanes before anyone else.
8. Tickets are nonrefundable.

Refunding a ticket costs everyone, so we don’t allow it. Of course, our tickets are so cheap it wouldn’t have been much of a refund anyway. If you need to change a ticket, your punishment for breaking a date with us is $40.
9. Bigger is not better.

Big airports can be a big pain. We choose less crowded and more convenient secondary airports for better punctuality and, of course, lower prices.
10. No spontaneous dancing in the aisle.

We realize you might be excited about paying a ridiculously low fare, but please refrain from any unbridled dancing onboard. This includes jumping for joy, disruptive cheering, and celebratory break dancing.

Stay away from this place...

You must have heard this from a friend of a friend who has a brother-in-law who's next door neighbor works at the same airport. If so, sounds credible.

From your initial posting it sounded as though you worked there. Guess not.

I give them five years at most. If I'm sitting on an interview board in five years and an ex Skybus pilot comes in I won't be rude, but he/she isn't getting a job. Whoring in this industry is reaching new proportions.
