I expect the airline to get me from point A to B safely and on time. I also expect to be told when and why my flight is delayed or cancelled. How much I paid for the ticket is irrelevant. It's not my fault the airline can't make money on it. The airline sets the fares, not me.

I think people expect that hikers that are lost in the woods should be rescued at all costs, even if it means putting rescuers at risk. Oh wait, which story did you mean to link to?

Just wanted to repeat what was stated above. This is exactly right. Perhaps one day some management somewhere will realize they should be charging more. However, until the government stops bailing them all out in BK court, I highly doubt we'll see any improvement on that front.
