Is the reason DTW developed into an asian hub the auto industry? I guess that's possible, honestly I hadn't thought about it. Really though, the only thing that MI has that would relate to their business is a supplier or two, most of the asian automotive operations in the US are in the south (Carolinas, Tenn and so on).


Not entirely correct. Toyota just opened a new technical/engineering center in York township. Prior to that they had a presence in Michigan for operations that were not factory related. Other Asian carmakers also have engineering-type facilities in Michigan. I could look them up, but really don't want to spend the time right now. Nissan, I believe, is another that has a facility in or near Ann Arbor. They may do little actual manufacturing in Michigan (Mazda does some), but there are more "other"-type operations than you would think.
