Make sure you wear your full uniform INCLUDING your hat to this one folks. So this is ALPA's great big move? Informational picket for 3 hours at 3 different locations. Shouldn't we have been doing this a bit sooner? Is it January 1st yet?

To the mesaba pilots ... burn it down. We will stand strong with you (but probably without the hats on) have faith and keep your heads held high.

Newsflash from ALPA International

All ALPA Pilots Invited to Rallies Set for Thursday

Mesaba pilots outraged by latest bankruptcy court edict

October 24, 2006

All ALPA pilots are urged to attend one of three picketing events on Thursday in support of the embattled Mesaba pilots struggling against bankruptcy abuse.
The Bankruptcy Court ruled late Monday night that Mesaba’s unions are not permitted to strike, and Mesaba management has announced that it will impose its latest contract proposal on Thursday, October 26. This decision is unprecedented, and ALPA intends to vigorously appeal.

To demonstrate their commitment to defending their contract while staring down the threat of a contract rejection and strike injunction, Mesaba pilots will conduct informational picketing in all three pilot domiciles on Thursday, October 26.

All ALPA members are invited and encouraged to attend these events. The Mesaba bankruptcy court decision is one that will reverberate throughout the industry unless it is reversed. Now, more than ever, strong pilot action is needed to defend the profession and send a strong message to every airline management that pilots are united in their efforts to achieve the contracts they deserve.

We must make it clear that the unprecedented circumstances facing our pilot group have not dampened our resolve. Our unity is our strength.

The picketing will take place at the following locations:

MSP: 10:30 a.m. — Meet at the ALPA offices (7900 International Drive, Bloomington MN). The buses will transport participants downtown to attend a rally and picket by the courthouse. If you would like to go downtown directly, please meet at the Crowne Plaza Minneapolis Downtown Hotel (618 Second Avenue South) at 11:00 a.m. The buses will return to the ALPA offices around 1:30 p.m.

DTW: 4:30 p.m. — Meet at the Hilton Suites Detroit Metro Airport hotel. Buses will take participants to the airport to picket until 6:30 p.m.

MEM: 11:45 a.m. — Meet at the Holiday Inn Select Memphis Airport. Picketing will take place until 2:00 p.m. at the airport.

For all three locations, please arrive in full uniform, including hat, and remember to dress for the weather.

For any question, please call the strike center:

DTW Strike Center 1-866-921-7833
MEM Strike Center 1-866-922-7833
MSP Strike Center 1-866-920-7833

Instead of calling it the strike center, it should be renamed the "closing the barn door after the horse got out" center. Or maybe the "inability to strike" center.

Why not use some of the ALPA funds to advertise in MSP, MEM and DTW?

One 30 second commercial showing first year pay at Mesaba now. Then break it down to hourly pay for duty time instead of the hourly rate. Wow. Explain that they now want a paycut. Now explain quickly that anyone leaving Mesaba must start over at the bottom of whatever company hires them, effectively forcing a pay cut with no option of a strike due to the judge. Now sit back and let the public support you instead of blowing off the overpaid, underworked pilots.

It will never happen, but a guy can dream.

Really wanna piss the public off in a heavily Democratic state like Minnesota?

Do labatt's comparison of compare current vs. imposed wages & benefits at Mesaba with WAL-MART employees. Then compare that to the poverty line.

"Do YOU want public subsidies from YOUR taxes going to the people that safely fly thousands of passengers every day?"

That should raise some eyebrows...

Look, Judge Kiss-off really blew it, and the chances are pretty good that labor will win the appeal. Yes, the situation we are in now SUCKS. But, (empty as it sounds) the fight is not over yet. It is very important to have a strong turn out for these demonstrations. Public pressure helps immensely. For one thing, large demonstrations could help us to get the appeals heard SOONER. That would be a huge help to us, so PLEASE TURN UP. It's everyones' fight at this point.

And, by the way, sympathy strikes are just what we need at this point. Sympathy strikes would bring way more pressure to bear than an XJ only strike. Pinnacle guys should especially run to support us now (and I know many of you will). If Pinnacle's talks are stalled right now, I'm quite sure a nice sympathy strike will get things going in your direction again.

I would like to thank Duane Woerth for his statements today. He is standing up for us, loud and clear, right now.

The barn doors are open, but the heard has not yet left the barn.

Best of luck to the Mesaba guys and gals. Your MEC chairmain, Capt. Wychor, walked along side us at TSA when we were picketing the creation of GOJET and I will never forget it. The sight of fellow pilots taking the time to come stand beside you is powerful. It let's you know that you really are not alone in this fight.
I too like the words I hear from Capt. Woerth. I must, however, admit that we heard similar words from him in STL regarding Gojet, only to hear deafening silence since then. Perhaps he sees the writing on the wall or the words of his soon-to-be successor and has decided that the time for real action is now.
Anyway, you guys are not alone. I hope everyone who can will come and show their support.

What good are sympathy strikes going to do when all the companies need to do is get a court ordered injunction. Mesaba pilots just need to not show up to work on thursday morning. Who cares if you get fired it would be a blessing for you. Help yourself!!!

I have to jumpseat on Mesaba this weekend to get to Michigan, but I'd rather not get there and have you guys walk off than have me get where I'm going.

Cheers!
