EMU

Have you checked into the Aviation Management program at Eastern Mich. Univ. I graduated from there many years ago. I don't know where the program stands now. I see there is some sort of partner flight school out at YIP(Willow Run) called Eagle Flight School or something like that.

I agree with the people saying get a degree in something else...to fall back on. I wish I would have stuck w. and gotten my degree in Architecture. But I didn't. I got bit by the flying bug and switched majors. Hind sight is always 20/20.

Its true, you do make some good contacts through school but you can make those same contacts at your local FBO. And save youself alot of $$$. $$ that can be going to you flight training instead of some fancy (or what they think is fancy) flight school.

Get a job at a local FBO. That is a good way to make contacts also. My 2 cents (only worth 1 cent)...

Your comment about becoming a doctor is easier said than done. I appreciate your modesty, but if you got into medical school and are now a doctor you are a highly intelligent person.

Flight Jock,

Most pilots have technical aptitudes and can readily assimilate complex thought. I found that it was a lot easier studying 8 hrs than laboring for a bricklayer. It made it very easy studying as long as I was thinking of the alternative.......HARD LABOR!

Thanks for all the feedback. I have narrowed the search down to two schools, one being WMU. I understand what you are saying about getting a degree in something other than aviation, but I absolutely HATE business, marketing, accounting, etc. I'm more into Philosophy, Psychology, and of course Aviation. If I happen to lose my medical, I can always get a job doing something that does not require a college degree or go into the family business.

There is no way I could ever be a doctor. I just don't have the desire or the ability to stay in school until I'm 30 and then work for next to nothing for at least five years. It is just not for me.

Amen to that...I spent one summer of college working for a landscaping business. Hardest dang job I ever had and it made me understand the importance of finishing up college.
