I am thinking about going high tech and looking for a web hosting company.

Do you know of one that you could recommend or one to avoid.

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Abe

Depends what you want to do. I'm not familiar with any free hosts, so I can only recommend paid hosting. I've set up a few websites using Hurricane Electric. http://www.he.net They provide very fast service for a resonable price depending on volume of traffic. They also have a full suite of services installed on their machines ie PHP, MySQL, Full FTP access etc. I recommend them if you're looking for speed and service. Starts at about $10/month.

I have a friend who works for Interland. I don't know much about the business or the industry, but she likes it. You can check it out for yourself by clicking the link.

Pow Web. Very reliable, they give you 250MB of space 25gigs of bandwidth, 250 e-mail accounts and unlimited e-mail forward address, free SSL, all kinds of other tools, all for $7.77 a month

If you do sign up put your reffer as lazyeights.net

I do web design on the side and I've got 5 sites hosted w/ Interland.

Great company. Publicly traded. They've been buying up a lot of the smaller guys. Great service. The tech support, hardware, etc., has been excellent.
