I have to be honest: NOT FUNNY.

Plus, it's things like this that continue to lower our perception of professionalism in the minds of our non-flying coworkers and the flying public.

It's our job as professional pilots to combat these negative stigmas, not increase them.

My two cents.

On a side note, did you notice the old "Braniff International" hat he was wearing? That really brings back memories of my childhood.

Fair point. But I think the reason why it is accepted is that when that skit came out we lived in a different world. There was no CNN, no internet, and no cell phone cameras that would flash news instantly around the world with over hyped media spin.

True, maybe there were some unhealthy attitudes about alcohol, but people could have a beer or two at lunch without being asked if you have a drinking problem. Pilots were respected and well paid. The idea of a drunken pilot meant something ENTIRELY different then than it does now.

There were no Barney Fife TSA agents smelling your breath in the morning, trying to be a hero. The "weaving on a plane" hits too close to home. We all cringe when we hear the public talk about drunk or sleepy pilots, don't we?

I think this is kind of like the test for pornography, you can't really define it; you just know it when you see it.
