They provide contract pilots to Jalways, a subsidiary of JAL. This was previously done by HACS (Hawaiian Aviation Contract Service), but WASINC undercut them. I'm told the owners are HACS pilots. I understand the tension between the two groups is rather high. Even without the tension between pilots, I've heard it's a tough place to work due to differences in the way the Japanese and Americans do business. Specifically, the Japanese flat-out treat the amercans like $hit. Pay's supposed to be pretty good if you can make it through a very scrutinizing physical to include strict anthropromorphic requirements and 6 months of degrading ground school in Tokyo. I have a friend who flies for them and loves it, but I have heard horror stories from others which were basically corroborated by my buddy.
You are correct, I just want to point out that they are hiring furlougheed pilots that sign on for a 2-3 year contract. The pay is good and if you get through the physical they are not that bad to work for in terms of having to wait it out till you get recalled. I know of 3 pilots all furloughed that were hired within the last 10 months and they have been treated okay. It sure beats pounding nails or mass mailing resumes to the regionals that are not willing to hire fellow ALPA pilots.
