Hello everybody,

Just got a call for an interview for WASINC/JALWAYS. Anybody got any FRESH gouge on the interview? Or is it still the same process as previously posted ?
If anybody had also the latest terms/conditions for the job ?? (Pay/Commuting etc...)
I am on a trip so I have not called back to schedule the interview. Will do it ASAP...

Go ahead and work for WASINC, if you want to work for 30% less than the IASCO contract, and you have to work with the IASCO guys. That sounds like fun to me.
 
Just curious, but how is that differant from a guy willing to fly a 747F or A320 for less than NWA pays? or a 777, 767 or 737 for less than Dal pays

Thanks for the answer. I also read your previous posts regarding Wasinc/Jalways and I would like to thank you again for posting them.
I am not too familiar with the differences between the Wasinc/IASCO contracts. Could you enlighten me ??
I was contacted by WAsinc and not by IASCO.
I am fuloughed from AA (and anxious to get back) and I got a decent gig right now flying 767s for GF. I get to go home every 5-7 weeks for a week and that is excluding my 2 months (52 days) vacation per year.(it has to be taken in 2 blocks). It is not the best job in the world but defenitely not the worst. very well suited for a single furloughed dude.(Not my case, but we manage)
Do you think I will be able to "commute" to SFO from HNL ? In other words, will JAlways allow me more time home than my present job ?? That is the main reason why I would leave GF.More time at home..
Of course money is the second most important aspect. I know you are not suppose to divulge contract specifics but a ballpark would be appreciated.
I assume you worked for the IASCO contract so I will take 30 % off that amount.
What kind of taxes are you subject to ?
I also note that you work for Atlas, Is it a better deal that Jalways ?
I just turned the interview down. They are hiring for the London base and London is kinda of expensive to live in.

T-Bags, You are talking apples and oranges. Atlas is just now completing its first CBA, and Atlas isn't nearly old of a company as NWA, et al. Give us a few more years, and a couple of more CBA's. Also, by working for Atlas, I am not going to work at 30% lower wages than someone at the same airline, as WASINC folks are at JALways.


Supreme, just my opinion, but I'd stay where you are, before going to WASINC.

The JALways contract is a non-commuting contract. They expect you to move to Hawaii. HNL is a very hard place to non-rev in and out of, and JALways pilots do not have jumpseat authority on US airlines. Are you married? Women tend to like Hawaii for a couple of weeks, then get sick of it. We had several divorces in the group.

Yes, I do prefer Atlas to JALways. I left JALways for Atlas, but the timing was bad, being September 01, so I had to wait for a class to finally start. I love flying for Atlas, but it's not for everyone. If you're a mommies boy or a home boy, you won't like it because you can look forward to being away from home 18, but not more than 22 days per month.

Yes, all of the new hires will go to STN, and it may take three or four years to be able to bid out to another base. I'm nine numbers from bidding out of STN to JFK, but I'm on military leave for 2 years and 10 months more (but who's counting?). I'm certain by then, I'll have a lot of bidding options. I may even bid STN. The Irish wife would love living there.

Just another perspective. I have a friend who flies for Jalways and has for years. He lives in Nevada and has a crashpad in HNL. Somehow he manages to jumpseat back and forth just fine. As for J/S'ing in and out of HNL, I've never had a problem, although getting on the first flight to LAX or SFO isn't always going to happen, there are lots of ways to skin that cat.
 
I'm not going to make a comment to mess up your gig, but I wouldn't be posting that on a public board, if I were you.

GCD wasn't talking to you, he was addressing Hugh. They make you sign a contract which basically says you're going to move to your base. These boards may or may not be monitored by management but if someone really wanted to make it hard on Hugh's friend or get him in trouble for commuting, he's just given them the ammunition to do it.

I did a lot of research on WASINC when they offered me an interview a while back and turned it down for several reasons (what a goat rope of an interview and physical - do a search on this board on "WASINC physicals" or "astronaut physicals", you should get the same hits). The main reason was that I didn't want to be the sellout working side by side with a group of pilots who would resent me.

There are three companies that do recruiting for the JALways contract, all three with different pay scales. The highest pay scale hasn't hired in some time as far as I know. The IASCO group hires from time to time, but the WASINC people came in and undercut their rates by 30% so they get most of the hiring green lights from JALways. What does this mean to you? It means you're effectively lowering the bar within the pilot group if you take the job, then you get to fly side by side with the guys who know you've done it and resent you for it. Can you say "gear up shut up."? Not a fun way to spend a half decade waiting for your airline to recall.

I believe starting pay with the IASCO guys was around $60k a year, the WASINC guys are right about $45k give or take, no guaranteed upgrades (based on performance - if they don't like something about you, you don't upgrade), and you have to live in Hawaii... on barely $3,000 a month take-home pay. That usually doesn't even cover rent and food unless you have a rommate or three to split the expenses.

Think hard about it, sounds like you're a family guy and it's not a family-friendly gig unless your wife is independently wealthy.
 
Hugh doesn't work for Jalways, WASINC or IASCO.

I am not sure what the IASCO guys are getting but the terms and conditions I have just received showed about
70,000$/year, not counting perdiem.That is after training. I won't go in details but the contract looked very decent. Maybe things have changed for the better...
The commute is the part that scares me though. HNL is hard to get to or out of on a standby basis.

Do you still have D2 privileges as an AA furloughee? HNL isn't that difficult to get in and out of if you are going to LAX or DFW. I've been D2ing weekly since January between LAX and HNL on AA and haven't missed a flight yet.

Although, the summer still remains to be seen...but, knock on wood, no problems yet, and most of the time I get first class.
