Just wondering out loud:
Upon a pilot's retirement from the cargo haulers, do the companies give a washdown to the aircraft upon arrival like other "people" carriers?
Seems like if there are no human passengers on board, or if it's still dark outside, maybe nobody would appreciate the idea.
Just wondering.

Yes they do at Fedex...when my neighbor retired his last landing was in SAN and they did it there...mostly though it is done in MEM...although i should say most washdowns occur in subic bay or bangkok

Hardy har har... But seriously.

I flew with a guy recently whose last leg was to the west coast. It was dark, but the ramp area is lit up and we went through the wash. Well, it was more like a light rain, since the trucks had to be so far apart because of the weird cargo area and we were in an MD-11. But it was nice. The captain had tears in his eyes and couldn't say a thing on the radio, even though we had set up with the tower to have his last transmissions recorded. His buddies and family were all waiting for him with cameras and cake and lots of stories.
