By the way. I never got a chance to ask how much most W.O. make. Can someone give me a rough estimate of total pay including base pay, flight pay, officer food allowance, and any other special allowances that you pilots get?

What I found.

Ok see if this is a good estimate for a new wo1. I found basic pay to be $2050. BAH came out to be $450. Doesn't that depend on where you’re living? I found 2 different flight pays. Don't know which one you get or not. One was career incentives $125. Hazardous pay $150. Then I was told I could add like $286 or something for officer food pay? This sounds to be a little high but I got a total yearly salary before taxes of $36,732. Does that sound right or way off? That really good if it's right!

sounds great right?

now compare the pay of a 4 or 6-year O3 to that of a W2 and see which is the better deal...

FYI it's Aviation Career Incentive Pay (aka Flight Pay) not hazardous duty pay; that's something else

Morris,
Are you going back on your word? Thought you said you decided not to join the military? Or was that just some psy-ops on your part to keep me off your trail?

lol

It wouldn't matter, I couldn't shake you if I wanted too. I'm just trying to find out some information for the future. I should never say never.

As always I must counter Anaconda on this issue. Compare the following two pilots...

One: a non-tracked pilot-in-command W2 chillin on the flightline every day and flying as often as possible

Two: a bitter O3 biding his time as the Battalion S1 looking forward to getting a command... and that command turns out to be an Air Traffic Control company.

;)

In my short period of time in the real Army, I have already seen that happen. I guess it all depends on what your priorities are. There's happy people in both the Warrant and Commissioned ranks... research both sides and pick which one suits you better!

Cheers,

back at you juris...

i knew somebody would say exactly what you did, i was just waiting for it...

don't limit your comparison to just the army.

do you think for a second the O3 in the air force or navy isn't chillin' just as well if not 10x better than the warrant in the gp medium at jrtc worrying about being the movements officer or stocking the fridge with treats (a job i understand you are all too familiar with)?

actually, allow me to do the math for you. at four years, the diff. is $12535/yr. at six years, when you are still a W2, the diff is $13791/yr. this is based on comparing basic pay only, and doesn't include bah or flight pay. of course with bah the difference would rise, since you get more bah as your rank goes up (approx. $200/month diff in my example, but varies by location. that's almost another $2400/yr for you math challenged).

if that isn't enough, i didn't even mention bonuses. last time i checked the army paid the lowest bonus. wait, i forgot, i recall hearing recently that the army encountered a funding shortfall and they won't be paying that promised bonus this year. gee, what a surprise...can you say ADSO anyway?

suddenly that atc command doesn't look to bed, eh?

you have the qualifications...i'll see you on this board in two or three years and see if you haven't come around...i know i did;)

AJ true statements

Yeah.. I remember meeting a MH-53 AF MAJ in the ROK who was over for some shopping from Guam. He said all he was doing was chillin'. not bad for a little bit of cash...

Replacement Jet that's funny...

MONEY

So was the estimate I put out there close enough to the real pay or way off? I would really like to know.

(2049+125+166+450)12= $33480

$33480 X The Morris Theorem = What Morris could have made as a WOJG if he shut his yap.

See Morris...This is the only kinda math a pilot really likes to do!

This is true. I knew you would counter with the "what about the other services" argument. Well, played... and it's a very valid argument. The Army and the Warrant Officer Corps isn't for everyone! I'm just trying to offer the man the variety of viewpoints so that he can make an informed decision. And, by the way, I am no longer the fridge BEEATCH. We've got a pair of new WOJGs that take care of it.

I'm not sayin' nothin'. That's my official stance. Cheers,

With "possible" being the key word..lol.

Pistlpetet! 60 drivers actually get to climb in their aircraft and go fly a few times a week. I know this is a foreign concept for you! ;)

agreed, i'm just trying to offer different viewpoints as well.

i believe that the army mis-markets this program in an attempt to ride on the tails of the other branches.

i just like to provide a differing viewpoint based on my 10 years of experience, which i admit isn't much.

you are right about one thing, it isn't for everyone...

Juris,
Thanks for the attempted 60 stab. But thankfullly I moved out of a muddy boot assignment like the 101st, and have been fortunate to have an assignment where I get to be a Pilot first and foremost. Believe it or not, in 2.5 years I have flown over 1000hours in the Army. Not too bad for an Attack guy huh?

I have plenty of hellfires spun up with the UH-60 code, but I need to keep them on standbye in case I have to re-code them as Morris missles when he get out of line again.

That ain't bad at all. I don't buy the "Apache guys never fly" argument anyhow. I talked to some guys going through WOAC and they all said that hours were pretty much uniform across the airframes by their level.

I hear ya. I'm glad I came here first, but definitely looking forward to something different in the future. <crossing my fingers for Hondo>

Cheers!

Juris,
Hondo would definately be fun. Have not heard anything bad about any of those south of the border excursions. Flight time is all about timing, unit and luck in the army. I think that KW guys fly the most because the nature of their mission, always screening and on the recon, but I did have a 60 friend who flew 669 hours in 14 months as the CG's pilot in Korea. Anyways, good luck in the desert, and congrats on your promotion to WOJG CDR.

Pete

That’s a hell of a lot of time for the army. I've been told you would be considered lucky if you pulled 200 hrs a year. I believe I read that in an aviation magazine at our airport in Longview. Anyways it was an article on the woft program itself. The best thing though is if you do get through about 8 years, any army aviator would have no problem landing a rotor wing job in the civilian world. I don’t mean a crap one either. I mean one like life flight and stuff of that nature. Anyways that’s great that you're knocking down time like that. Peace
